We booked a five-bedroom home with a pool in California through VRBO in December 2024 for a September 2025 trip to attend the USC vs. Michigan State football game. Several months later, we discovered through a friend (a realtor) that the home was listed for sale — something the host never disclosed. When we brought this to the company’s attention, they confirmed the home was on the market but assured us we would receive a comparable five-bedroom property with a pool if it sold. Just three days before our trip, they informed us the house had been sold, and the promised replacement was no longer available. Instead, they offered us three inferior options — all with only four bedrooms. Only one had a pool, and they wanted us to pay an additional 1500 premium despite the downgrade in number of rooms. After lengthy stressful discussions, they finally agreed to waive the 1500 fee and gave us the Malibu property with a pool, but it still only had four bedrooms and was 26 miles farther from USC, which significantly affected our plans. We believe it was deeply unfair and misleading for the company to knowingly list a house for sale without notifying us and to fail to provide the five-bedroom accommodation we paid for. The last-minute changes and lack of transparency made what should have been a fun and memorable trip unnecessarily stressful.
