Behrends Family Homestead has a rich history that can trace its roots all the way back to the great wave of German immigration. In 1853, Christian H. Behrends was one of many who boarded a ship in Bremen, Germany, heading for the “promised land” right here in Texas. Each adult paid $120 for passage to Texas and a promise of 40 acres of farmland in return. This influx of settlers later became known as the great wave of German immigration, and its legacy is reflected today in Fredericksburg’s German heritage, customs, cuisine and culture. Each guesthouse on Behrends Family Homestead is named after a family member who spent time cultivating the land and shaping it into what it is today. The Cora is named after the owner’s grandmother who raised a family of four (and countless chickens) for years without the luxury of electricity.
―THINGS TO KNOW - Please read before you book―
AMENITIES: Wood for firepit, champagne, and rose petals are not provided, but please inquire about our romance package for your stay!
LOCATION: The Cora sits right along the 290 Wine Trail, placing you in the heart of Texas Wine Country with wineries just minutes away. Please note, the convenience of this prime location comes with some highway noise.
PRIVACY: The Cora is one of four thoughtfully designed accommodations on the Behrends Family Homestead. The unit is detached from the other units and it features a fully fenced private courtyard for your exclusive use. The other three units are set toward the front of the property, so while you may see fellow guests enjoying the homestead, all amenities listed are private and reserved just for you.
CHECK IN & CHECK OUT TIME: Check in is at 4pm and check out is at 11am. You will receive a code for keyless check 2 days before your arrival. We are only able to offer an early check in if there is not a booking before yours as it takes time for our cleaners to prepare and restock the home for each stay. For this reason, we are also not able to offer a late check out when we have guests checking in the same day.
GUEST RENTAL AGREEMENT: We kindly ask all guests to sign a separate rental agreement after booking. This helps us protect both you and our property, making sure everything is in order for your stay. We’ve kept the agreement simple and straightforward, and we’re happy to answer any questions you might have about it.
CLEANLINESS: We put our heart and soul into ensuring the space is sparkling clean and ready for your stay! We invite you to make yourself at home and show our space the same love and care you would your own. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to keep it pristine for every guest, and we're excited for you to enjoy it!
Some of our favorite amenities are outdoors, and while we do our very best to keep everything tidy, a bit of Texas Hill Country dust or the occasional fallen leaf is simply part of the charm. We hope you’ll embrace it as part of the relaxed, nature-filled experience that makes this place so special.
MINIMUM AGE TO BOOK: You must be at least 21 years of age to book. A photo of your government ID is required after booking and we will require you to sign a rental agreement.
WELL & SEPTIC: Our home offers the charm of rural living with the convenience of proximity to local attractions. As we rely on well and septic systems, we gently remind guests to be mindful when using sinks and bathrooms. For those not accustomed to well water, you might occasionally notice a sulfur scent. Rest assured, this is completely harmless, and our filters and water softeners are designed to minimize any odors, although a hint of it may still linger at times.
CRITTERS: Our house is in the beautiful Texas countryside, and like many homeowners around here, we have regular pest control to keep critters and bugs at bay. However, every now and then, a few might sneak in. It's pretty rare, but we just wanted to give you a heads-up that it's part of country living!
DAMAGE PROTECTION: Your booking includes coverage for accidental damage during your stay, because we understand that sometimes things happen. We kindly ask that you let us know if anything does, so we can take care of repairs or replacements as needed.
INSURANCE: Given the unpredictable nature of our world, we strongly suggest considering travel insurance to safeguard against any unexpected events. Our cancellation policy is firmly in place, so insurance can offer you peace of mind and protection. For those exploring travel insurance options, InsureMyTrip and Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection are two providers you might look into. Please note, we don't have any direct ties or endorsements for these companies; we're just pointing out some avenues you might consider.

Big city studio apartment with a private hot tub in the hill country. Beautiful night sky. You can’t visit all the wineries between this cabin and town but we had fun trying.

The property was quiet and adorable. I would pick this over a hotel suite any day. We truly enjoyed the showers (2), jet tub was amazing and the hut tub outside was nice (if you don’t mind a few creepy crawlers which are to be expected given the location). It had all we needed (ladies take your own hair dryer), the bath robes I could live in! It is a little further out from Main center area if this is your main reason for visiting but very close to multiple wineries which we enjoyed. Overall a great stay!
