Explore the Highland Lakes Area: Wineries, Restaurants, Fast Food, Outdoor Adventures & Lakes!
Being located in Buchanan Dam, Texas, you're perfectly situated to explore the charming towns, natural beauty, and outdoor activities of the Highland Lakes region.
The Highland Lakes:
The Highland Lakes are a chain of seven lakes on the Colorado River, formed by dams built by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). Your suite is nestled among some of the most beautiful and activity-rich of these lakes:
Lake Buchanan (Buchanan Dam/Burnet): The largest of the Highland Lakes, Lake Buchanan is directly accessible from Buchanan Dam. It's renowned for its wide-open waters, excellent fishing (largemouth bass, catfish, white bass, striped bass), and scenic beauty. You can enjoy boating, swimming, and exploring its shores. The Vanishing Texas River Cruise offers ecological and scenic tours of the lake and Colorado River canyon, perfect for spotting wildlife and even bald eagles in winter.
Inks Lake (Burnet/Buchanan Dam): Just a short drive from your suite, Inks Lake is a constant-level lake, meaning its water level stays consistent, making it ideal for year-round recreation. It's a popular spot for swimming (including the famous "Devil's Waterhole" for cliff jumping), boating, water skiing, paddleboarding, and even scuba diving. The adjacent Inks Lake State Park provides easy access and rentals for various watercraft.
Lake LBJ (Kingsland/Marble Falls/Horseshoe Bay): Another constant-level lake, Lake LBJ is a hub for water sports and luxury living. It's excellent for wakeboarding, jet skiing, and cruising. You'll find numerous marinas for boat rentals and launches, and it's a popular fishing destination.
Lake Marble Falls (Marble Falls): This smaller, constant-level lake in the heart of Marble Falls is perfect for high-speed thrills like wakeboarding and waterskiing, but also offers quiet coves for kayaking and paddleboarding. It's home to the exciting annual Lake Marble Falls Drag Boat Races.
