Birthday staycation

Hotel grounds – Absolutely beautiful, picturesque, and so calm and therapeutic. The gardens and surroundings really made us feel relaxed. Reception – Professional but quite robotic. There was no warmth or welcoming feeling; it just felt like a task being done. Sycamore Room – The views were stunning; we could see the lovely Bath landscape and hot air balloons from our suite, which was amazing. The Nespresso coffee station was delicious and well stocked, and we appreciated having a fan in the cupboard to use. However, the bathroom was extremely disappointing. The washpot had poop left under it from a previous guest, so we didn’t use it at all. The toilet seat behind had blood-like marks, so we had to raise it to use it, and the bath was dirty too. The whole bathroom furniture feels old, worn out, and unclean, which really doesn’t match how beautiful the actual room was. Also, for a room booked for three people, there should have been at least two bottles of still water provided. Spa – I wanted to book a massage treatment on the day we checked in, but they were fully booked. My advice is to book your spa treatments ahead of your stay to avoid disappointment. Breakfast – Lovely choices for hot food . We went at 7am, and no queue with full attention from the waiters. Checkout – Quick and easy, but again very robotic with no warmth or thank you. It was a nice touch that they left a handwritten birthday card and chocolate

Very disappointed. The spa was terrible. Dirty facilities, faulty steam rooms, cold pool and drinks all around outside hot tub. Room was dirty, bed uncomfortable and flies in room. Ordered room service- charged £10 extra to wait 40 mins for raw food. Had to return and wait another 40 mins. No refund. Nice from outside and location nice but this is definately not a 5 star. I stayed alone to relax for my son’s graduation and my trip was terrible compared to the usual 4 star hotels in the area. Definately not worth the spa. Outdoor thalassopy pool was warm but dirty unfortunately.

Lovely hotel in a fabulous location. We were very fortunate to receive an upgrade to one of the Imperial Suites. A big shout out also to Samuel who ran the garden bar; very welcoming and attentive.

Very disappointing

Suite was nice but one small bottle of water between two and no water in the coffee machine is poor. Service in the restaurant was poor. No genuine welcome just a help whilst aggressively tapping the screen with a pen. Clearly dealing with other complaints whilst not attending to other customers. Really disappointing stay in what looks a great hotel from the pictures. The lady at checkout did give us a card to send our thoughts to a manager.

pleasant setting and superbly located

We enjoyed our stay, although we spent most of our time in the town centre. The hotel is very conveniently siuated, comfortable and has a nice luxury feel. There are some comments that it could use a refurb but we did not feel that was the case for our room, only in the lobby toilets did I notice some wear and tear. I would return to this hotel, should I be staying in Bath again but will make more use of the facilities next time. The staff are pleasant and helpful but the only negative was one of our drinks orders taken in the garden was forgotten and took 30 mins to arrive but this is not a reason to overshadow our stay and the waiter was very apologetic.

Nice hotel, noisy room.

Nice hotel, looking a bit tired especially in the bedrooms. We had a connecting door. Unfortunately this was very poorly insulated and we could hear the ladies in the next door room having a blazing argument at 8 am. The plug hole in the bath tub wasn’t draining properly so filled with water about 4 inches during a shower. We had a nice dinner in their dining room, and the cocktails made in the bar were excellent.

The grounds and check in were all fine. However my first issue was breakfast on Thursday morning. We queued next to a dirty table for 40 minutes before being given a table. There were plenty of tables but no one really seemed to be running the restaurant other than the man who showed us the table. There were some twenty uncleared tables in the restaurant and none of the staff were clearing despite walking past them. We were asked to order breakfast without being given a menu and had to ask if there was anything other than full english. Toast came out but with no butter, cutlery and plates which I had to request twice. There were no glasses at the buffet for juice and water. Again I requested four times if someone could bring out glasses! Breakfast was average for a supposed quality hotel. Friday breakfast; there seemed some normality; we were given a menu but I sent the coffee back twice. Someone needs to teach the staff how to use a cafetiere. The coffee goes in, add water and then the filter. Not in reverse which allows coffee granules in your cup. However the worst part was sitting in the courtyard today after breakfast and having two large rats run past our table. I have never experienced this before in any hotel. The spa experience was excellent despite having the times changed and the bar man on Wednesday who is relatively new in the Collanade Bar was very good and deserves a promotion. The other staff could learn alot from him.

Far from 5 stars

Overall we had a nice stay and enjoyed relaxing in the pools. But the property is in need of substantial investment. Our bathroom sink was smashed. Decor is old and dated. We had dust on our coffee cups. Also things like only providing one small in-room bottle of water for 2 adults is pretty stingy! Got charged 10% service charge when buying a bottle of wine from the bar when the service was terrible! I feel like I’m being miserable but this is far from a 5 star hotel. But it didn’t spoil our couple of days in Bath.
