The Neighborhood:
Does the perfect Washington, DC Airbnb location exist?… Yes. Yes, it does and I’m going to tell you why:)
Welcome to my neighborhood, the historic Eastern Market neighborhood on Capitol Hill! Now let's get to the fun stuff.
General Information About the Location:
Where you will be staying is in the heart of Historic Eastern Market Neighborhood, a sub-neighborhood of Capitol Hill. For full-time residents of Washington, D.C., Eastern Market is one of the most desirable neighborhoods to live in. Our opinion is that Eastern Market has a more authentic D.C. neighborhood feel than Georgetown. Not to mention a more convenient location to tour museums, eat at neighborhood restaurants, attend sporting events, and go to concerts. We can't forget to mention that Eastern Market has a metro stop within a 3-minute walk and gives you access to the whole city….well besides Georgetown which does not have a metro stop….yikes. But don't take this the wrong way, you will definitely want to spend a day or few hours walking around Georgetown:)
Food and Dining:
Restaurants: There are over 175 restaurants within a mile and a half of where you will be staying. From ultra high-end restaurants to greasy pizza shops we have something for everyone.
Coffee Shops: You can have your pick of coffee shops within a 5 - 7 minute walk you can choose from national chains like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. If you prefer boutique local options we have plenty of those options as well with Peregrine Espresso and Radici to name a few.
Grocery Stores: If you feel like cooking in one of our well-equipped kitchens. Within 15 minutes you will have a Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe's, Safeway, and Yes Organic.
Shopping
If you are looking to get in a little retail therapy while you are visiting, Eastern Market is packed with a bunch of fun, diverse shops. You can travel to City Center and visit the section of ultra-high-end retail. There are large store brands like Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, and H&M downtown.
Big Time Attractions Within Walking Distance
The National Mall - Is a 20-minute walk from where you will be staying. Our friends at Wikipedia described it well “The long, grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. At the eastern end is the domed U.S. Capitol (*a 15 min walk from where you will be staying), and the White House is to the north. It's also flanked by Smithsonian museums, and its lawns and pathways are often crowded with school groups, joggers, and softball teams. Nearby, the Tidal Basin reservoir is known for its blossoming cherry trees”
The Wharf and Navy Yard: If you are looking for a more modern experience or want to attend a sporting event. Navy Yard and the Wharf are great spots and all within 2 miles.
Nationals Park and Audi Field are both with a 30 Minute Walk
Dancing and Late Night Locations:
There are plenty of bars around Capitol Hill, The Wharf, Navy Yard, and walkable locations around where you will be staying. But if you want to go where the most activity is from 10 pm to 2 am we would recommend you hop in an Uber or Lyft and head over to U Street/14th Street in NW DC. It is a 15-30 minute ride to that area and you will find a diverse blend of nightlife options. You can also take the metro but keep in mind service stops at Midnight.
Getting Around:
Driving:
You should not need your car once you are here but if you are driving to DC we recommend finding an overnight garage to park in.
*Based on availability we have a free on street spot about 15 Minutes away that can be used by guests. You must reach out to let us know if you would like to use it.
