Bago View Cottage is centrally located in the heart of the stunning Snowy Mountains village of Talbingo. Enjoy uninterrupted views of Bago State Forest, Jounama Mountain and glimpses of Blowering Reservoir from the north facing, wrap around verandah.
Our cottage is surrounded by a curated garden of fruit trees, native bird attracting plants and an abundance of beautiful roses. In springtime our Citrus, Apple and Stone Fruit trees are covered in beautiful blossoms, in particular our Quince, whereby a multitude of native and non-native honey bees can be found busy, foraging for nectar from its stunning dark pink blossoms. Also, keep a look out for the native Blue Banded Bee, Teddy Bear Bee, the Masked Bee and a multitude of native butterflies. Talbingo is a perfect location if photograoy or painting birds and landscapes are your hobbies.
Bago View Cottage is in easy walking distance to playgrounds, parks, town center and the Talbingo Golf Club where you can enjoy an icy cold beer after a hit of golf or game of tennis. Follow that up with a delicious meal at the Happy Chilli Garden Chinese restaurant offering a variety of menu choices.
There is so much to do in this unique part of the Snowy Mountains in both summer and winter. Go bushwalking in the adjacent Kosciusko National Park, including the nearby Jounama Creek and spot the resident Platypus or swim in one of the many cooling water holes. A summer must do is to pack a picnic lunch and explore the stunning Blue Waterhole gorge, via the equally picturesque. Long Plain Road A year-round and absolute must do while you're visiting Talbingo is to visit Yarrangobilly Caves & Thermal pools.
Nearby, Jounama Pondage is great for birdwatching, picnicking and can be fished from the water's edge. No swimming or watercraft are permitted in Jounama Pondage.
If water activities like fishing, water skiing, kayaking and swimming, are what you seek, well Talbingo Dam is for you. A large body of water that spans 20km in length with an average depth of 70 metres, Talbingo Reservoir is a premier inland fishing destination and is home to a mix of Rainbow & Brown Trout, Golden Perch, Redfin, Murray Cod and Silver Perch. Talbingo Dam features a large 40 metre long floating concrete mooring pontoon. This modern tourist facility includes a safe swimming area separated from boats, a grass picnic area, picnic tables and gas BBQs. With a sandy beach area parents can sit on the purpose-built bleachers while they supervise the children swim & play in this fabulous space.
After your Summer stay with us come back and enjoy a Snowy Mountains Autumn or Winter. In Autumn the town's trees offer a palette of amber, crimson and copper colour, coupled with a stunning array of native birds. If you want to experience some of the region's most stunning birds, you will find them visiting OUR garden. Resident Magpies, Galahs, Cockatoos, Currawongs, Crimson Rosellas, Kookaburras and spectacular King Parrots have been known to even land up on the balustrade to sneak a quick treat. The garden is home to an abundance of Blue Superb Fairy Wrens that flit around the garden and if you're lucky, they might stop long enough for a photo while they perch on the apple trees.
If snow sports are more your thing, Bago View Cottage is only a 62 km drive to the newly built Mt Selwyn Snow Resort. Constructed after the devastating 2020 fires that decimated the region, Mt Selwyn Snow Resort is the perfect winter destination if you are a beginner at skiing or snowboarding or simply want to play in the snow or toboggan. After your day on the slopes, hunker down and warm up by the cosy, wood burning fire while you enjoy a warming cup of hot chocolate.
Bago View Cottage has a large, modern, chefs style kitchen with a six-burner induction stove and large 900mm wide oven. A central island bench can seat up to five hungry humans or is perfect to set up a delicious buffet meal. The night sky, minus the light pollution of the big city offers a perfect opportunity for star gazing, astrophotography of the infinite & starry Milky Way. Depending on your time of stay, you might get to watch a spectacular sunset over Bago Mountain. If you're really lucky to stay when the conditions align, you might even get to witness the Aurora Australis.
Our cottage offers you three large bedrooms that can comfortably sleep five. While we provide quilts, quilt covers and pillows, you will need to bring your own sheets and pillowcases for your stay.
