Market towns Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury with their museums and galleries are within easy bus reach, also Long Melford, Cavendish and Clare. With a car, you can explore more lovely villages such as Kersey, drive to the Stour Valley Path for a walk, visit Constable Country, or spend a seaside day at Southwold, Aldeburgh or Frinton.
In Lavenham itself, and all within 5 minutes’ walk, you can take a guided tour of the village, or visit the Guildhall, Little Hall and famous wool church. Film buffs will look for locations from Harry Potter, Lovejoy, Barry Lyndon and The Witch Finder General. Recreational shops include galleries, antiques, bookshop, clothes shops, spa and beauticians. Food shops include a traditional baker, butcher, grocer and Co-op open until late, with a cash point. There’s a weekly fresh fish van, and a monthly Farmer’s Market. You can also enjoy a variety of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and weekly fish and chip van, and not least, visit the Airman’s Bar at the Swan Hotel, which has relics of the presence of the USAAF during WW2.
