The Cove-Front Porch Living

A bit of old style Florida when people talked and sipped tea on their porch in the late afternoon. You're in the middle of the city but feel like you're out in the country. The house is surrounded by tropical, organic gardens. Most of it is edible, medicinal or a butterfly/bee attractor. Sunset House and Gardens is a certified wildlife habitat. It is not uncommon to see endangered Monarch butterflies along with native birds. We happily compost, recycle & upcycle. We utilize rain barrels and participate in soil restoration.

The Cove Sleeps 3 comfortably. There are two twin beds and a full size futon. I will accept four guests if at least two of the guests are children under 12. Although it has a separate bedroom, I consider the Cove a studio apartment due to its size. The building was built in 1923 and has 3 apartments in it.

While you're here you may see the infamous "Oreo" The black and white bunny that lives in the garden. She likes human companionship but doesn't like to be picked up or held. Her favorite foods are curly kale, ears of corn and crunchy granola bars.

The garden is not a traditional English style garden. I practice permaculture and a lot of the plants are native to the area.

I do allow pets but dogs must not be excessive barkers. There is a pet walk area on one side of the parking lot.

Non smoking-it is allowed on the porch and other outdoor areas,
Wifi, cable and flat screen TV
Free onsite parking
Comes with 2 beach chairs, beach umbrella and beach towels

The Kitchenette has a large convection toaster oven, two cooktop burners and a mini fridge with freezer, toaster, microwave and sink.
It comes stocked with coffee maker, utensils, dishes, flatware, pots and pans, basic seasoning and enough coffee to get you through the first morning.

The bathroom is stocked with towels, blow dryer, has a large walk in shower and comes with a complimentary basket of toiletries.

Pay per use laundry room ($3.00 a load).
DVD Library, games and books.
Free onsite parking
Free loaner bikes. First come first serve. ( I have 3 bikes at the moment)

I have lived in Florida for over 40 yrs and I am happy to give recommendations on where to go and what to do. I live nearby please call or text if i can help.

5 miles to Clearwater Beach and 1 mile to downtown Dunedin.
Beaches:
Clearwater Beach- Awesome, city beach with all the fixings. Restaurants, bars, shopping and 3 miles of pure, white, sandy beaches. Pier 60 Sunset Festival 7 days a week 4-8 pm. Free movies on the beach Fri & Sat nights. 4.7 miles -drive, bike or take the bus.

Honeymoon Island State Park Beach-Voted top 10 beach in the country. Nature lovers will find osprey nests, a wide variety of shorebirds, and one of the few remaining virgin slash pine forests in South Florida. The park boasts several nature trails and bird observation areas. Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters of the Gulf or picnic while they enjoy the beautiful scenery. Shelling is particularly good here, as the Gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of seashells on the shore. Showers are available and the park´s concession has a gift shop and snack bar. 7.3 miles-drive, bike or take the bus. http://(email hidden)/honeymoonisland/

Caladesi Island-It is one of the few completely natural islands along Florida´s Gulf Coast, Caladesi´s white sand beaches were rated America's Best Beach in 2013. Beach lovers can enjoy swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing. Saltwater anglers can cast a line from their boats or surf fish. Nature enthusiasts can spot wildlife while hiking the three mile nature trail through the island's interior or paddling a three mile kayak trail through the mangroves and bay. Picnic tables and shelters are located near the beach. Take the ferry from Honeymoon Island. http://(email hidden)/caladesiisland/

Other fun stuff-
Delightful Downtown Dunedin-Quaint, funky, trendy vibe. (20 minute walk) Pubs, cafes, shopping & local art. The pictures online do not accurately represent the property.
The property was dark, damp, and poorly lit. All surfaces including counters, furniture, and bath were worn and front porch was soaked including patio furniture and cushions. Property unusable and firepit outside smoking, smoldering did not allow us access in and out of our rooms. We immediately contacted owner and she told us we could cancel our reservation but did not give us any instruction on how to do this and was on her phone as we were leaving. Being Christmas eve. we had to secure lodging and a new place to stay. Do not believe these photos! Also having a hard time getting our rental nights reimbursed back from this property owner. We tried to be sensitive to her need to rent this property but do not feel her misrepresentation should be at our cost and still waiting for VRBO/Home Away to resolve. Ironically, after a hotel stay on christmas eve, we were able to find a great VRBO rental a few blocks away and we were able to enjoy a great dinner with our 93 year old aunt that we had traveled great distance to see. We are seeking an immediate refund either from Vicki or Home Away. Sincerely, Charlie and Anne Monger

Very nice, cozy getaway!
The overall place was nice! I do have a few concerns, though. The walls were a little thin for our taste. We could hear people showering upstairs, and we heard someone hammering loudly outside one morning. Also, we lost water in the entire rental the last night of our stay, but gained it back about 5 hours later. Again, very nice, quaint, cozy place! Would definitely stay there again, just got to keep those things in mind for the next time we stay.

Clean, Great location, Friendly - a 10 plus!
We came to Dunedin for Spring Training and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Location was perfect. The free bikes were a lot of fun. The fully equipped unit felt like home. We barbecued multiple times - saving lots of money eating out. When we did go out, we could walk or Uner very easily. Vicky was so friendly and accommodating with any 'special request'. We will be back!

More than enough! The Cove is a sweet retreat!
Disclaimer: this is going to sound like a love letter, but we did not know Vicki and Dave before our stay! The Facility: The Cove is a small efficiency apartment, 1 bedroom with twin beds, a sitting area w a flat screen TV( full cable and hi speed internet) and a kitchenette. Fulll bathroom and the step in shower is to do die for! The Cove is situated in a small compound of several rental units , surrounded by a luxurious garden .that has little surprises of horticultural excellence and eccelectic appointments tucked into little nooks and crannies which invite you to explore. The front porch of the Cove is furnished w comfortable seating, and was soon adopted as my window into this marvelous scenery. From here, book in hand and a cup of coffee within reach, I could inhale in the scent of the fauna and emerse myself in in its majest each morning. The neighborhood cat would present himself to get his ears scratched and his tummy rubbed and little "gecko" like critters scurrying around were fun to watch. After one long day of touring the coast, we returned to find that our hosts were hosting a drum circle in the garden and invited us to join them! Wow! What fun! The Cove is conveniently located next to DunedIn and a short drive to Clearwater Beach. That Beach and Honeymoon Island are on most lists as the best that Fl has to offer. Sunsets at either are breath taking! Easy access to Alt-19 and 19 make it very easy to get out and explore neighboring towns like Tampa and St Pete, which seem to have festivals of some kind weekly. Our hosts, who quickly became good friends,(. See disclaimer) were always available when we needed answers to questions or in the rare occasion when the Cove needed some TLC. BTW, if you have a guitar that needs some repair work done, Dave is a master craftsman and has a shop on site! Bring it along! We have already booked the Cove for next winter and we would highly commend The Cove to anyone wanting a unique Florida Gulf experience, short term or long term.

Fantastic Stay
Stayed in "The Cove". It is just as pictured. Easy to get to. Didn't have time to explore the area or restaurants, but everything you could possibly want or need there was a brochure available. It was clean. I enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evenings. The garden was just lovely. Oreo the Rabbit, was a joy to watch. Vicki is so personable and easy going. She takes care of her guest. I'd stay again on my next visit.
