We had a room which overlooked a mound which made rm dark. There were only lamps one ceiling and bathroom lights. The bathroom light through the switch in middle of night. My husband didn’t want to wake me by calling maintenance. We couldn’t have shower in morning it was too dark and unsafe. Reception Staff were really good unfortunately it took a while by time we got to breakfast it was limited. This was reported to manager who offered us various things to apologise. We took him up on a drink orange, lime and Soda. The surrounding area of hotel is beautiful shame hotel isn’t.

Faulty Towers

I booked a room through Hotels.com for Thur 26th June. I was not told when I booked that there was a prom that night and all I wanted was a quick meal and an early night. The restaurant was full, as no other guests wanted to sit near the unbelievable loud music. There was also a coach tour of what can only be described as pensioners so to say it was busy was an understatement. I stood 5 deep at the bar to order a Lamb Kofta hanging Kebab and a glass of wine. I asked for a receipt but because the music was so loud they ignored me and served the next person. My food was very undercooked and ended up being eaten by the dogs sitting next to me. Please see the attached photo. When I finished I asked to speak to the manager, he said that they were too busy to print my receipt but reception will print it for me in the morning. I messaged the hotel from hotels.com to ask for the receipt in the morning and nearly a week later no response.  In the morning reception said that there was no manager on shift last night. They said I spoke to a supervisor and he should know that reception cannot print out bar receipts. 1 week later and I'm still £30 out of pocket.

Arrived on the Friday night at 8:45pm after a 4hr drive. Booked 2 rooms for wife and I and 2 university age kids. Wedding reception going on. Reception explained there was a wedding, but it would finish at 12:00 midnight. Full menu served until 9pm. Then it is pizza and sandwiches only. Given room near wedding venue, things in room vibrating, paint on bath flaking off, went to bar to get food. There is no separate bar for the wedding, so you are in effect part of the wedding. Dance hall right next to bar, volume high. Wedding guests enjoying themselves and looked happy. Pizza was borderline, had to remove fist size lump of onion chutney. Cider tasted stale. Could not really talk in bar, so ent to room. Very hot as gets sun late into evening, window closed or open, fan provided but clicking all night, wedding venue volume very high, but stopped at 12:00 midnight. Did not sleep at all. Visited Sheffield Uni for a tour (our primary purpose for the visit) and the hotel is walkable distance 30+ mins. Got back at 6pm, thinking to sit in the bar and relax, but no, another wedding. Reception informs us will finish at midnight. No alternative room available away from the noise. Curtains opened to warm the room nicely. Explained cannot go another night with no sleep and checked out of the venue at 7pm. Hotel could not do anything as it was booked through Expedia. Expedia tried to contact hotel and ask for a refund, but no permission from hotel. Expedia has give some credits. Not good.

The hotel was not as depicted. The receptionist was quite abrupt and really not that friendly. The pool had plastic loungers with baby changing mats on, as cushions at the back. The pool was loud, a group of 8 children were screaming and shouting, dive bombing, fighting and getting into the jacuzzi ( which was not permitted, as they were too young). These issues were not addressed by staff. As we entered the pool there was a lady on the floor who had hit her head, where she had slipped. The hotel was very drab and in need of updating. We will not be staying again and we certainly will not be recommending. The only reason I have given one star is for the bar staff, who were friendly and the food they made was nice.

The best part of this hotel is definitely the location. It is in a tranquil oasis just a few minutes away from Sheffield city centre. Sadly although the area was beautiful it was let down by litter in the hotel grounds and very unkempt & overgrown trees & bushes everywhere. Access to the patio was limited - only being accessible via the restaurant/function room or by walking around the back of the hotel and battling along an overgrown footpath. The room we stayed in was extremely tired although functional. A shabby bathroom & poor quality & limited selection of tea & coffee making facilities. We had breakfast our first morning for ease and again although some elements were good there was a poor choice in some areas. No marmalade or choice of jam on a breakfast buffet?? Just again a cheap, poor quality strawberry jam in plastic packaging, The staff were all very helpful and polite.

It was a tale of two halves. Nicky and Lisa on reception were really helpful and pleasant, as were the other staff we interacted with, but housekeeping let the side down. Lipstick marked glasses and a less than pristine bath on arrival; our cups weren't refreshed but towels were (even though we didn't ask for them) on the second day. It is a lovely spot though.

The staff were all very welcoming to our children. Kelly went out her way to help us with our luggage as we were leaving. The room was very spacious even with our double pram and travel cot in the there as well. The only two bits that were disappointing were the ants by the pancake machine for breakfast and the room was tired, it needs a refurb!

Family break

It is a lovely hotel in a great location. It is a bit worn, the shower door didn’t close properly however the shower was fab. Bed was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Staff were very friendly. There was a wedding on and the music was loud when trying to get to sleep but wasn’t really a big problem.
