An old hotel with modern facilities right near the cathedral and centre of Salisbury. Great value. Nice places to walk the dog nearby. Such a friendly, relaxed city.

Covenient for a one night stop over with car near the center of Salisbury. Cramped room, shabby interior and traffic noise from main road disturbed our sleep often. Weak shower and bathroom in need of some maintenance. Bed was comfortable. Parking was a significant factor for us.

The armchairs in the reception area needed the seats respringing so were quite uncomfortable and couldn’t draw the curtains in the room properly because they had partly come away from the rail . Also the mattress was quite lumpy . £152 seemed rather expensive for a one night stay .

Some noise from an event that was taking place the evening I stayed. However, I was made aware of these at check in and that efforts had been made to locate the room as far from the event as possible. The event stopped before midnight.

While appreciating the age of the hotel there's a few things that disappointed. The shower was pretty weak, the aircon didn't work but two oil heaters were supplied. The TV signal failed occasionally and the bed while huge in the Privilege room was a bit hard and lumpy. We'd requested 2 extra pillows what weren't issued. The coffee machine barely worked with too little whole milk portions supplied (barely enough for 2 cups). The other alternative was Nescafe Original sachets (which seems to be standard for Mercure hotels). The location is excellent though and while the car park is handy and a good price (£7.50) the rear entrance is a bit hazardous underfoot. Staff are friendly enough but I needed to remind them about my parking charge and wasn't asked at checking out whether we had enjoyed our stay.

Nice hotel, should work on food

Perfect location, close to everything you want to see. A great advantage (and a reason why we picked this hotel) is the car park, big and very reasonably priced. Clean and comfortable rooms. Very nice and helpful staff. The only complain would be breakfast which was more expensive when pain during booking (at £16 per person) than it was when you were there (£12.95). Plus, if you pay £16 per breakfast you don't want to ask for things to be put on a buffet. There were two pieces of salami and two pieces of ham on a "meat" tray and three kinds of cheese, again two pieces each, on a "cheese" tray. When my husband took the ham I asked if more could be brought and the waitress did bring more. Two slices. We were not the only people there.
