We stayed for 1 night with our dog. The room was nice, clean & very spacious. Check in was very smooth & the lady on the desk very friendly & helpful. Shame we couldn't stay for longer as the leisure facilities looked good. Great location to the beach & only a short walk into town. Parking is payable on arrival as run by a private company but plenty if spaces.

All of the staff were lovely. Great check in. Loved the charm and uniqueness of this Victorian hotel! My children enjoyed the pool (although the water was a little murky- perhaps the chlorine levels or filter needed looking at?) nice sauna and changing areas all lovely and clean. We enjoyed a drink in the bar. Loved the location right across the road from the beach and close to the town centre. The family room was huge which we really appreciated! Coffee and tea in the room which was great. Parking extortionate so we parked across the road on the meter for half the price. All in all we had a wonderful stay. Well done best western!

This hotel was good, a little tired and dated but staff helpful and friendly. Family room was a good size but was looking tired. Beds comfortable and room was clean. Was only there one night so was fine for what we needed. Pool was ok and good for the kids to have a splash. Water warm. Changing room again a little tired and lockers need fixing. Parking on site. £20 for 24hours.

Hotel had good facilities and well situated. Staff also friendly. Everyone from reception, the bar and room service were very helpful and pleasant. Whilst our Suite was a good size (room 313), it definitely was in need of some modernisation. The Bathroom was dated and tired. The shower pressure was dreadful, and the toilet flush kept breaking; meaning we had to keep taking the top of the toilet off to reconnect the mechanism. There was also black around some of the silicone, and it’s clearly a dated bathroom which could do with some work. Another issue was we booked a room suitable for dogs, however the balcony was not sub-divided. This meant if our dog was loose he could freely walk to either of the 2 balconies on either side of us. We therefore were unable to let our dog onto it. Also, the heating was poor and the radiators didn’t get warm at all despite putting them on maximum. Likewise, although the air con maximised to 30 degrees it wasn’t adequate. We visited in October and it was around 9-15 degrees. When the temp drops significantly in a few weeks I wouldn’t recommend staying there. Also, a more minor point, but the trailing wires across walls for both TVs were a bit of an eyesore. Some trunking would tidy that up a lot. Just a minor detail. The food and drink we had at the hotel was all good, and the parking excellent; though be aware of an additional charge of £22.50 - not unreasonable for the location, and felt a safe place to park.

This is a lovely old hotel with well maintained lobby, lounges, restaurant, bar, and grounds. Unfortunately, our first suite was very "tired" with a chipped bathtub, chipped walls, peeling wall paper and very uninspiring, austere decor for a British hotel - i.e. one kleenex box and some prints on the walls. Our second suite was better maintained but was missing items like a luggage rack, drinking glasses, full length mirror.... In both suites we had to hunt in the cupboard for a second set of towels and pillows. I understand that they're trying to be more ecologically green but they've gone a bit too far. Service was excellent all around and the restaurant was very good also. It's located on the east cliff with a lovely view. Gardens and pool must be very pretty in the summer.

Work tip

The room was very spacious, but gloomy - just one standard lamp and 2 bedside lamps. A short term fix would be a pair of desk lamps (or a desk in the bathroom, which was very well lit!). Also the towel rail was not working - hope they get it fixed before winter comes!

Most of the property is pretty tired, but the indoor pool and spa were not open - and the spa has been removed which is misleading. The staff at check-in made no effort to compromise or be conciliatory with us (4yo in tow) which made the whole start a real poor experience.

Im going to be honest here; early check-in is not an option. Weve been made to wait 1.5hrs after check-in time, but were given bar vouchers so fair play on staff trying to make do. Shower sink took ages to clear water, room window was opening all the way (I was with 2 small kids). Hotel is old and in need of refurbishment.
