A big disappointment in Jiufen
We were excited about this place but unfortunately it turned out to be a disappointing experience. Pros: - the location is decent. It's about 7 minutes downhill walk to the old street. - the bathroom is big*. Cons: - we were told to meet at a specific spot and call once we got there. It was at least 20 minutes before somebody showed up while we stood outside in the heat with our luggages. The gentleman who answered the phone was quite rude and even asked if we didn't want him to eat lunch. Note that check-in times were from 3PM-6:30PM. We called around 3:15PM (with no comment about how long we'd wait). The lady who finally showed up was nice and tried her best so they gained back a few service points. - while the bathroom is huge, it was bare with nearly no room to put anything. I ended up with my toiletries on the corner of the bathroom floor. - towels weren't provided (I realize this is not completely unusual in Taiwan, but it was the only place in our Taiwan stays without towels). - air conditioner would just cutout after a few minutes of running. Asked the staff to look and they never called us after they looked (we were away). Problem persisted the rest of the night so we finally shut it off and opened the windows. It was raining hard so ended up OK, but could've been miserable. - one of the walls was quite nasty with peeling paints and moisture damage. - had to ask some very noisy neighbours in same house to quiet down at 1AM.

Property was clean and true to pictures. Clearer instructions on check in procedures and directions to home stay could have been provided. Otherwise, host was really helpful and friendly!
