we got there and everything looked good. Got up to the room and the heater did not work. Bellboy came up and started the fireplace and said that you just run the fireplace until you’re warm. In about 20 minutes it was so hot you couldn’t stand to be in the room and the windows did not open. So I turn the fireplace off and we froze for the rest of the night. Woke up in the morning tried to start the fireplace and it did not work. When I checked out I mentioned that the heater did not work. I was told that none of the heaters work. When I said that I was upset about that the attendant was rude and just told me that’s my opinion and opinions vary. I will never stay at that hotel again and I would never tell anybody else too. By far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel.

Hi there, We're sorry you had a difficult time with the heat in your room. It sounds like you may have been in a Deluxe room, where the heat source for the room is the fireplace. Unfortunately, it sounds like our staff did not properly explain how to regulate the heat, as the fireplaces are connected to the thermostat and will turn on/off automatically, based on the temperature of the room. We will share your experience with our staff, to ensure they are all properly trained on the heat system and how to share the operating details with guests, so this does not happen again. We are so sorry about your negative experience.

The old building has its charm, very nice on the exterior and interior has some old details. Like many others have said the location is great, it's within walking distance to most pubs/bars/ restaurants and even fisherman's wharf. It has that downtown vibe and that's refreshing for us, it's located on the main street and there's a cafe right next door. There are plenty of parking nearby, but for overnight parking there's a structure parking for $7 so that's not too bad. And it's all free on sunday and saturday after 5pm. The windows are old single pane ones, so they do allow a lot of noise and is bad on insulation. If your room is facing the street noise can be a problem. We stayed on the backside facing the apartments so it was alright, even though we could still hear sounds from the main street. The room has tall ceilings typical of historical buildings, but our room was very small. You enter directly into a queen bed and that was rather strange. The bathroom was actually decent, has marble flooring tiles and it looks clean. The exhaust fan was very loud but you definitely need it since our room wasnt very well ventilated and only has 1 small window. The carpet feels dirty and worn, we dont feel comfortable walking on it barefooted. A part of the floors creak loudly as u walk by. The bed is uneven and not very comfortable. The breakfast is ok, but leaves room for improvement. There is waffle but no eggs,sausage or bacon etc.The muffins were covered w/ fruit flies, alarming!

I love old historic hotels and the rooms are updated and nice. They hold firm to a 3:00 PM check in no matter what and the slightly surly receptionist didn’t make it any more enjoyable.

Very old and dirty hotel. The carpet was filthy and required socks at all times. The only real choice for parking was valet parking. When I checked in I asked if retrieval of car would be a problem at 4:30am and was told no problem but to call down to desk 10 minutes before I needed car. I called for 30 minutes and no answer, I went down to desk and no one was there. I rang bell on desk repeatedly and still nothing.......I was worried about missing my flight and turning in rental car. Finally at 4:50am a woman came out of the bathroom and went to go get my car........THIS IS NOT A HOTEL I COULD EVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

It was a beautiful hotel, right in the heart of Monterey. Within walking distance to a lot of things to do as well. We stayed in a historic room, which was beautiful, with a great view of downtown Monterey!

Found a dirty Tee Shirt under the bed while checking to make sure I didn’t leave anything behind. Hello is there a maid? who cleaned this room?
