There is no key to unlock the deadbolt if you lock it from inside the room which we did. We stepped out unto the balcony and the balcony door automatically locks. The room key doesn’t unlock the balcony door from the outside. The outside lock can be unlocked with a key stored in a safe which they could not open

The history and charm of the hotel was lovely. Right on the seafront with fabulous views and the room was clean with a fairly comfy bed. Hotel in general needs updating but I gather there are plans for refurbishment next year.

Sorry Mendocino Hotel :(

For $250 Garden View King room I was dissapointed in the "garden view" of #310 it was a few small semi alive flowering plants with view of the street over walkway to upstairs rooms one with a large pup that moved around ALOT above me with its people. I hope The Marriott will bring the magnificent Historical Hotel back to its top service with restaurant and Bar. Bathroom fan did not work and a bedspread would have been nice.
