Having debated for weeks on whether to stay at The Fairmont or the Mandarin Oriental, I made the ill decision of picking The Fairmont. From the get go, service was extremely slow and concierge were uninviting. The room had a wow factor when first entering, however a lot of the amenities were gimmicky and didn’t work properly. The iPad that controlled the lighting was unresponsive and the control pad for the bidet didn’t work. The shower pressure was low and so was the toilet spray. The tv for the bathtub was also slow and unresponsive and required a technician to come out to turn it on. Having called concierge for assistance, they not only didn’t respond to follow up calls as to the whereabouts of the technician, but made us wait 20 minutes for a knock on the door. Once the technician came, he seemed inept to carry out his role, as it took him an additional 20 minutes to turn the tv and sound on. At which point my bath had cooled and subsequently lost its allure. Having spoken to concierge the following day, they lacked empathy and didn’t provide any consolation. This stay was the second half of my trip to Qatar. The first being at Al Messila Luxury Resort and Spa, which I must say surpassed my expectations. Considering the price point I assumed that the latter part of my trip at The Fairmont would be my favourite but unfortunately that is far from reality.
