A Downtown Hideaway

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
We stayed at the Suites Bahia for one night prior to a week at the El Cid La Ceiba. The room was nice. The suite part of it was a half wall that divided the large room. There were two very firm full sized beds on one side and a small table and chairs(think patio furniture) on the other. The bathroom was nice with a large shower (no bathtub). The room had a full sized refrigerator and a microwave included. The A/C worked well but was noisy. The suite was ocean view and we did like the view. Suites Bahia has a very small elevator and it took several trips to get all of our luggage up to the room. They do include a breakfast buffet at the Casa Mexicana which is about a block and a half south of the hotel. The buffet was very good and is a nice component of the package. We liked the location as it afforded us immediate access to downtown with all of the shops and restaurants. For being on the main drag and in the middle of downtown it was suprisingly quiet.

Convenient and good value

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: Noisy
The place in not a new place and that shows, that said everything in the room worked, the staff where helpful. The breakfast in the sister hotel was one of the highlights a nice way to start your day. Easy to walk most any place in town from the hotel. If you rent a car, parking can be a problem, we found a place on the street 4 blocks away that was safe and the walk was nice way to check out some side streets .

Fun hotel

A friend of ours and I spent 5 days in Cozumel in May of 2010. She was doing her OW cert and I was diving. It was easy to catch a taxi from in front of the hotel and we paid for the ocean front room which we absolutely loved. It was clean and the air was fresh. We found our rudimentary Espanol was perfectly adequate to communicate but we didnt really need them for anything. The little balconies are great for drying gear and youre close to everything. If you want a resort or fawning you wont get that. We had a blast and would go there again. To us it was quite a treat after a basic nights lodging at the Safari Inn which was also fine. You can get whatever you want in Cozumel and most are great. Some people want more pampering some less. Of course it wasnt silent but who cares? Its just fine for a downtown hotel which is what we wanted. Very comfortable. Maids are super nice and brought us more towels when we asked. And wow! They speak Spanish. I wonder why they do that? Could it be because theyre in like Mexico?

True Traveler's Hotel

The Suites Bahia is a true traveler's hotel; It's cheap and no-frills. If you are looking for a very basic room in a great location, then I highly recommend the Suites Bahia. If you want a hotel with ammenities, then look elsewhere. We stayed in room 41 on the 4th floor. A few things you should know before you go: first, there is no "kitchenette" in the room like their website states. There is good-sized refrigerator that can hold about a weeks worth of groceries, but that's it. There is a very nice supermarket within walking distance. The mattress is as hard as a rock! If you have back problems or are sensitive to sleeping on hard surfaces, you will be very uncomfortable. The continental breakfast that the hotel advertises is not actually served at the Suites Bahia, but rather at their sister hotel, Casa Mexicana a couple of blocks away. The Casa Mexicana also has a very small pool that Bahia guests can enjoy as well, which is rather nice, but was freezing cold when we were there (Beginning of April). I'm not sure if it was because our room was on the 4th floor or not, but there is hardly any water pressure and the water literally dripped out of the shower head, which made for a long and frustrating shower experience. The hotel interior is dated, but overall the room was very clean and the service was good.

WELL Worth it

Hey.....for this rate you might not get the Taj Mahal but absolutely worth the price. Great location for seeing downtown Cozumel....near town square, view of cruise ships (advising you when to leave town), AC works good, Microwave and refrigerator for snacks etc. HUGH King bed and double. For the money I truly do not suspect you can do better......if you want to really spend your money - go to Cancun. This is the place for the wise spender. Front desk bilingual, great maid service, snack machine in lobby if munchies hit, walk across street to Pizza Hut or around the corner to Mickie Dee's. Le Mission one block away (fantastic food). Totally a place to wind down and enjoy the slower pace of Mexico (vs Cancun).

Cozumel at Carneval

We were suprised when the Carneval parade took place. A great experience. Suites Bahia is on the parade route so it's a great but noisy spot. The hotel was great, not fabulous but more than adequate. The employees were friendly, the front desk very helpful. We would stay there again. The city is busy but very friendly.

Location

I have stayed twice. Both times I found the room clean and the bed confortable. It is a little dark inside and worn but for diving and the location in the center of town it could not be better. Not a resort but a place to rest confortably for the next day. I will return.Contrary to other reviews my room was located in the interior portion of the hotel so very quiet and the staff was friendly and helpful.

unhappy

you should let people know that a standard room has a brick wall for a view. the staff is very unfriendly-many do not understand english. Friday and saturday night the noise from the street is so loud it is impossible to sleep. I would not return to this hotel and certainly would not recommend it.Our son lives in Cozumel and we plan on returning often. We were very disappointed with the service. To upgrade to a room with a window we were charged $25.00 a night.

We liked Suites Bahia

We went in March, the weather was beautiful. We went in a group of 6, all staying at suites bahia. Get the room with the view on the second or third floor. It's worth the extra twenty bucks. The service was wonderful, the location was perfect close to everything. Great patio to look at the water- very clean hotel. The beds were rock hard though. That's the only flaw we found. We all loved it there.
