My stay in July of 2017

The hotel was run down. There was so much seaweed on the beach that we couldn't even go in the water. I was very dissapointed. I paid for all inclusive but had to spend money on food and drinks elsewhere and sit on the beach with no chairs.

We sincerely apologize for the seaweed issue that has been a problem over many parts of the island. Unfortunately it is beyond our control. We are sorry that we could not meet your vacation expectations.

Would not recommend

So disappointed in our trip. This was our first getaway in 10years, since our honeymoon. I chose the Divi because it was all inclusive. I chose wrong. We waited at the front desk for 10 minutes before some one checked us in. We were so excited to hit the beach, but we're soon dissapointed to see piles of seaweed. The white sandy beaches were covered in this smelly, thick, nasty seaweed. They apologized for "nature". We wouldn't even swim in it. Luckily we rented a car and able to visit other beaches. The service was standard. The food was average, we had bugs in the room. I expected so much more.

Thank you for sharing a review of your stay. We know how the Sargassum Seaweed can negatively impact a vacation. This is not a local seaweed. It comes from an area of the sea called the Sargasso Sea which is more commonly known as "The Bermuda Triangle". This seaweed is home to many smaller animals as a safe haven for them as they grow. At different times of the year for different reasons that scientists are still trying to determine, there is an over growth of this seaweed and tons of it affects the beaches from Mexico through Trinidad. This began a few years ago. We try our best to clean up the seaweed as fast and as frequently as possible. Because of this species of seaweed floats and is home to smaller animals, we have to wait until it gets to shore to avoid harming the sea life that it houses as well as other creatures that could accidentally get caught in netting if we tried to fish the sargassum out of the sea. Scientists are still working on this for all of the Caribbean. Our local Department of Planning and Natural Resources as well as Parks and Recreations are looking into ways to utilize the seaweed as it appears on different beaches around the island. We are sorry to read that you found our service to be lacking and that the seaweed so negatively impacted you stay. We try our best to provide an environment that is fun and relaxing and apologize that this did not seem to happen with your stay. At the same time, we are happy that you were able to go out and enjoy the island. Thanks again for sharing. With kindest Regards,

Pros: Scenic location and great views
Cons: Make the in town shuttle part of the all inclusive. We had to pay each time...and each time the price was different.
Location: We liked the 1/2 day cruises and fort in town.
I would have to rate it at 2.5 - 3. It's a beautiful location, very scenic, and most of the staff was friendly. However, many things didn't open until later, so occupying a 4 yr old was pretty much only pool or beach..and water was rough so we ended up in the pool mostly. Every time we went to get pool towels (except for once on our 4 day stay) they were out. We had ~24 hrs w/o electricity, which doesn't matter when you are in the pool or on the beach...but when you need to charge a camera or phone or need AC it is not pleasant. I ended up with so many mosquito bites because we HAD to sleep with the balcony door open (also not ideal w/a 4 yr old). That was miserable. Also, due to no power, many things were closed...even after they got a generator going...it couldn't power everything. BAsically, you only had one restaruant option... the seafood buffet dinner (in the dark was hard to see what everything was). When we asked about potential for compensation at the desk I was told "I don't know and there is no one here to ask". The resort has potential, for sure, but management really should make it more customer centric and not like it's your only option.

Thank you for sharing a review of your stay with us. We share all guests reviews with our team in search of what is working and where we need improvement. We are sorry to read that we failed to meet your expectations but are very happy to read some of your suggestions as they are certainly things that we can consider. We also want to thank your or your patience as our unplanned power outage was certainly something that could understandably negatively impact any experience. During the power outage, management were moving around the hotel trying to get things for guests and staff as well as constantly check in on the progress with the power returning. As this was some time ago, it would be hard to ascertain why a clerk would respond in such a way. However, we have sat with our clerks and speak to them about their responses to inquiries in hopes that our communication with all guests will improve from here. While there is not much that we could do to salvage your vacation, we hope that you and your family were able to build a few fond memories of your trip to St. Croix. With kindest regards,

Relaxing Place for a Honyemoon

Pros: Quiet, food is decent, drinks are strong
Cons: Nothing close, lack of nighttime entertainment
We really enjoyed the Divi resort overall, but there are some minor areas that need to be addressed. First, the things we liked: #1 was definitely Esmeralda - she was amazing and helped us out when we were booking our excursions and renting a car. Give that girl a raise! - Kizzy, Dave, Scott (bar tender by the pool during the day), and the other gentleman at the Tiki-Hut - you all were wonderful!! They all had great personalities and were a pleasure to talk to. - Caribbean BBQ night - the food was good, the entertainment was good (YOU NEED MORE OF THAT!) - The view from our room was absolutely stunning. - Basically the entire staff was fantastic. - Great snorkling and non-motorized sports. Things that need work: #1 without a doubt is the entertainment - there really wasn't much to do after dark and we ended up drinking and falling asleep earlier because we couldn't find anything to entertain ourselves with after 10pm. - The amenities are ok, but a lot of them are tired and need to be updated. - The premium room we paid for had a cracked sink and a broken shower stall door... if you pay for a better room (the view was perfect) but the room was really beat up. - The bed was hard a concrete - it's not a bad thing for people who like firm beds but our backs hurt every morning. - The taxi driver had a terrible disposition and it was hard to communicate with him because he mumbled. - The service is slow (everyone is on island time). Overall, we would return to the Divi as we loved the people there and it was extremely relaxing and quiet regardless of the fact that there were three weddings going on at the same time. The Divi definitely needs to up the ante on the night life and cater to people who like to hangout past 10pm other than going to the Casino. Even though it was the off season, the resort should still have more things going on during the evening to keep their occupants occupied since it's a 20 minute drive into town otherwise. The Divi has a great staff, the food isn't half bad either, I liked everything that the Rok dinner was fantastic.

Relaxing Place for a Honyemoon

Cons: Nothing close
We really enjoyed the Divi. Everyone there was amazing. From Esmeralda in the gift shop to the guys outside at the Tiki-Pizza Hut. We thought the Esmeralda was fantastic - she really helped us out when we were planning excursions and renting a car. Kizzy was extremely nice and very pleasant to talk to as well as the guys at the Tiki Hut. Dave and I can't remember the other gentleman's name were hilarious and kept the drinks coming. Scott down by the pool was also amazing and really has a great knack for making drinks not taste like alcohol hahahaha. The house cleaners did a fantastic job and mopped our floors everyday. The only problem I had with the room itself was the bathroom. It had a cracked sink and the shower stall door was broken. We're not high maintenance or anything but since it was our honeymoon, we figured that we should have received a better room since we paid for a premium room. Our view however, was completely stunning. The other small complaint I have is that the bed is rock hard - we're used to a soft bed as opposed to a firm bed so it wasn't a huge issue. It was always clean, and comfortable, but after a full night's rest, our backs were killing us. The staff was fantastic except for the taxi driver (he's really sullen) whose demeanor is a turn off and service is very slow (everyone is on island time). Overall, we would return to the Divi again in the future.

Great value for traveling with children

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, dive shop located on premises
Cons: some of the outer structures could use some work.
Our family just returned from Divi Carina Bay, and after reading some of the earlier reviews I was a bit aprehensive about out trip. However, after experiencing the resort ourselves, we had a great time. The resort can use some sprucing up as it is an older establishment, but the staff were friendly and ready to accomodate. The food was not five star but very good. We were traveling with our 15 yr old son who is an eating machine, so the all inclusive aspect was a definite draw for us and it did not disappoint. Two of the nights we did the "ROK" dinner with filet mignon which you cook right at your table (very yummy). The view from our second floor room was spectacular and it was always clean. Another important feature was having the dive shop on the premises. Our son was there to finish his SCUBA certification and Cane Bay Scuba located right near the pool was terrific. hopefully we can there again

Hotel is a little tired

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: pool
It is the only all inclusive on the island so not much choice It is functional but certainly not luxurious. Hotel could use a facelift. Food is good but not alot of variety. Water sports are weak and water sports staff is even weaker. The beach is fair, alot of seaweed but the maintenance crew does work hard to clean it up in the morning. If you go be sure to rent a car as you are away from everything (which is not necessarily a bad thing). The casino is totally unobtrusive to the resort and it's guests.

Horrible Experience - Motel NOT resort

We had a horrible experience. We were fooled by other's reviews. Do not make the same mistake. This place is more of a motel than resort. The rooms are all ocean view, but the bed was uncomfortable, the mirror in the bathroom was chipped and after their attempt of replacing a vanity mirror they had forgotten to paint the patches on the walls. Their customer service is horrible. The bartenders and waiters get mad and roll their eyes when you order anything and normally you have to wait over 20 minutes for a drink. They advertise that they have 4 restaurants, well that’s not true. Your dining options are very limited. They have one area with gorgeous views but also the worst breakfast of your life. The bar area on the water is the only place opened most of the day. They also have a pizza place that is only open 4-9. The casino is not attached to the resort and you have to cross the dark street to get there. That’s the extent of your dining options. They give you a wrist band that you have to wear for all inclusive and they change the band color on Saturdays. I had no idea this was the case until I got 2 phones calls from the front desk at 8 am on Sat. morning to go change my wrist band. They do give you towels but they do not take good care of their beach chairs and their beach. (bartenders) who actually care about their job. If I was the hotel manager I would fire the rest of the staff and hire people that actually want to work. The wild life in the bay is good.

unfriendly day staff, but amazing night staff!!!

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: Nothing close
The food, rooms, and hotel entertainment was all great. The cab fares on the other hand were not as nice it was spendy to go anywhere. Plan on going back again.
