bait and switch

I reserved 7 rooms for a Saturday night in January. All rooms were supposed to be upgraded, deluxe 2 double bed rooms with a partial lake view. That was the room description that was paid for in advance. 3 in our party did not get the upgraded room and were told by the front desk staff that the basic room was all that was available due to renovations in the hotel. Given no other choice, those rooms were accepted with no compensation offered. The first room I was given had the strong smell of glue or mineral spirits or something similar, possibly related to renovations but far, far to strong to tolerate. We were promptly given another room. Only after I spoke to the manager was any concession made (they did comp my parking when I asked the to).

We are glad that you found our staff to be nice and enjoyed your overall stay! Sincerest apologies for the status of your first room! We look forward to having you back once renovations are completed.
Thank you and be well,
