We arrived after 3pm but still had to wait on the room to be cleaned. All the food was delicious and well seasoned

Ok resort. Ok being the operative word.

I have 2 complaints, the 1st being having to reserve space for things that are clearly no where near capacity. You must reserve a shuttle service to town which is usually empty. You have to reserve dinner at restaurants that are empty. 2nd, they don't seem to have enough towels for guests. I called housekeeping desk and asked for towels, she said 10 min, 30 min pass and I call back, she says right away, another 45 min pass, and I call back with no answer from housekeeping or the front desk. FInally after 3 hrs I had already showered and dried off with a hand towel, and on my way out the door, here are towels fresh out the dryer. They also did not give washcloths till my 3rd day, after repeatedly asking. I wouldn't have been so upset if they would have just told me in the beginning that we're short and they would get it to me asap, but they lied and I sat around waiting. If you don't like children this is not the place for you. The children are allowed to run around recklessly without any parental supervision. Most of the staff were friendly and pleasant. They put on shows and activities in the evening, even though all Spanish all the time, I enjoyed the energy. The quiet pool was not too quiet, where some guests want to play music from there phones and some guests totally ignored the 18+ rule and bought in their screaming babies. The pool was nice though aside from some rude guests. This makes this resort just OK!

Dear Alberta, First at all, we really want you to know how much we appreciate your valuable remark about your staying with us; Comments like that helps us to improve the quality of the service that we offer. We want that our guest always feel comfortable and good with all the services that we given to them. With that reason on mind we manage the booking system for most of our service, because when we are full house it’s the better way to guarantee to our guest they can have for what they want without causing discomfort to them. When you stayed with us we were out the season, so the hotel occupancy was not full, but our policy it must be on March because no matter what, we want the best for our guest. What it related to the shuttle, we ask to our clients to book for it to have a control so we also can reach them in case they can’t not assist or be on time for the bus, and help them to not miss it in case something unexpected shows up. We are sorry to hear about the situation with the towels during your stay. We apologize for all the inconvenient that did cause you. During your staying was a problem with the electrical power company which force the laundry department to work with the minimum among of machines allow because the power of the electricity wasn’t enough to make work all of them. As a plan B we sent the towel out to be washed. We have already taken the corrective and preventive actions that guarantee us that things like you've mentioned before won't happen again. Right now, we got some employees whose work at recreations and pool department watching over people who may not respect the hotel policy. We got 2 kinds of pool area for the same reason, because we know that everybody do not have the same interest and hobbies, but we definitely want everyone in the hotel feels good. Nice all-inclusive hotel with one BIG negative.

Although there's much to like about Occidental Grand, I still have to suggest you avoid the place. First the good news: the staff (and I mean EVERYONE!) was wonderful in every way. They just couldn't do enough for you. The room very comfortable and perfectly clean, even if some of our furniture was kinda bizarre in an odd, ultra-modern way. Rooms were quiet and distant from noisy venues, so you could always sleep or nap in peace. Food was plentiful, a nice variety daily and fresh. The free open bars are good places to try out exotic fruity drinks you've heard of but never tasted. I'd rate food & drinks "very good" but not "excellent". Having two pools (one adult and one family) was a nice touch. Beach, grounds, physical plant -- all nicely kept and attractive. Nice upper-middle class international clientele. SO WHAT IS MY COMPLAINT? The LOCATION IS JUST TOO ISOLATED. I was told the hotel is about 25 min from historical Cartagena..... which is true, if you're traveling at 2 in the morning. But for most of the day, travel time one way is 45 min to an hour. Worse yet, the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus is almost always overbooked .... so you can never just leave or return when you feel like it -- you have to make an appointment 24 hours in advance --- or hire a taxi which costs 40,000 or 50,000 pesos each way. Management really MUST improve their shuttle service. If so, the Occidental Grand would be a really nice family place.

Dear Richard, Thank you very much for your comments on Expedia. We will put an eye on the shuttle service. The shuttle has to be book a day in advance as people are making plans and this is our recommendation in all of our documentations and oral briefings. Transit time is normally even in peak hours 25 to 30 minutes but at the moment there are construction going on the National Highway which will be culminated very soon. Nevertheless I would like to precise that we are the only hotel in the area having a free shuttle to downtown with exactly 239 daily seats. Now I have seen places like the Mayan Riviera in mexico where people are staying at 90 minutes from airport or Playa del Carmen downtown, no free shuttle and they pay 50$ minimum for a taxi. If ever a guest cannot get one of the 239 daily seats a taxi is 40,000 Pesos which represents $13,50 USD for a family of 4 ($3,38 per pax). Nevertheless if ever that would be a issue with one of our guest we would definitely make it a duty to make sure you go downtown on the shuttle.
