We’ve stayed in the main hotel and loved it. The cottages are cute and we wanted to try them out but they are very small and close quarters. We will stay here again but in the main hotel. The staff is awesome, accommodating and super friendly always!!

If you request a pet friendly room expect it to be small and dirty. The bottom of my feet turned black after walking around the room barefoot. The room was tiny. Stained sheets. Dirty shower. The a/c sounded like a freight train. Maybe their regular rooms are better but our experience was pretty gross.

The bathroom was very small and a little run down and the room itself did not have a lot of amenities, like a safe or cleaning. It was okay for what we needed as we were only in the hotel to sleep or take breaks.

Alex was extremely helpful carrying my luggage up and down the stairs since the property has no elevator. IT was great to have a fridge. I didn't try the microwave or burner to see how those worked. The Museum is very loud and noise came in from activities on the rooftop. I stayed in a cottage. Very convenient location and not too far uphill. Older, but had everything I needed for a short stay. It was wonderful to have a place to leave baggage too.

The location is central to the main area of Avalon. The hotel, like most in the downtown area, appears to be a converted old home and so is a little basic. No in room coffee but there is a coffee shop nearby. Good basic room in a great location

Good location but the hotel is definitely ran down a little. Flys flying around the inside entrance area. No heater in the room so was freezing all night and morning. Bed was a little uncomfortable on the cheaper side forsure. Also was the cheapest room so I guess you get what you pay for.

So much noise! It was so loud from a weeding planning next door we couldn’t enjoy the trip and it was freezing we tried finding and calling for assistant to get a blanket or heater and couldn’t get anything the first night. We called all the number they gave us.

I’ve been coming to Catalina Island since I was a kid, but I had never had the opportunity to stay at hermosa hotel. This time around I am married, expecting, and decided to bring our paw babies with us to our baby moon. My husband and I loved it and will be staying here again. It’s minutes from Vons and down the street from my grandpas home. I would recommend Hermosa hotel to anyone planning on coming.

Location was perfect, the beds are comfy but the room itself is small. Near the center of town, easily walkable from the Catalina Express. Prices aren’t bad. Standard toiletries made available as well as fridge, microwave, hairdryer, and iron as well as a luggage room and 24/7 helpline (but clerk not on duty outside of regular working hours).

Very interesting historic property. Clean rooms, kept decently up to date. A/C worked, which was crucial to comfort even in April. Kitchenette was nice to have. Upper floors are accessible by stairs only, so mobility limited persons should check for lower level room availability. Some rooms are reportedly haunted, if you're into that sort of thing. Though the hotel staff and I are skeptical.

Good value and location

This place is a good option if you’re looking for inexpensive accommodations and are not planning to spend much time in your room. It’s in a great location within walking distance to just about everything and the staff was very accommodating, but the rooms are very small with minimal lighting and no seating options. There are also a lot of stairs and no elevators, which was not an issue for us.

The picture and description of the room was definitely deceiving.We were able to check in early and the guy that checked us in said all of the rooms are all the same but different lay out. As soon as we got in our room we were surprised how small the room was. There was only 1 outlet near the bed. The nightstand was at the foot of the bed so there was no way I can set up my medical device I need to use for sleep. So I went back to the front desk to ask for another room because I needed a nightstand next to the bed. The guy was like is there a way you can move the bed or reconfigure the room so you can use your device? Then he proceeded to say well as long as you didn’t touch anything in your room I can try to look for another room? That’s what pissed me off? Of course we touched stuff in the room he checked us in that room and how were we supposed to know that room wasn’t equipped with the most basic necessities. And why should we have to reconfigure our room? We’re the guests? What kind of customer service was that? I asked to speak to the manager and she wasn’t too friendly either, kind of a dry personality. She handed me an extension cord and asked if that would work? I said no it’s not gonna work and I wanted another room. She agrees and said she will call us when the room is ready since we checked in early. My BF was tired and seasick so we decided to stick it out. We reconfigured the room ourselves and used an extension cord. The drain in bathroom was also clogged.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. It wasn’t a luxury property, but we were only there to sleep. Convenient to walk around town to all the shops and restaurants, as well as the beach club for kayak rentals and snorkeling in front of the Casino theater. I would definitely book again!
