Works if you're trying to sightsee
The location is in a rough area of D.C, there were police parked down the street each night we stayed(Fri and Sat), so this is not a great walking location, BUT we rented a car so we travelled to the National Mall in under 20 mins. Extremely close to the Highway and able to get out of the bad area pretty quickly. Location 4.5/5, Neighborhood 2.5/5 The place itself was slightly dirty and had a damp smell. Pictures were definitely taken at the start of them renting this property, and the furniture showed some wear and tear. Cleanliness 3/5. We only used the space for sleeping so it worked for our situation. Outdoor patio furniture was covered in debris and wasn't able to be used. Having AC's in each room was a plus. Host was responsive. Communication 5/5

Weekend away with friends
The neighborhood was sketchy. The house was dirty, your feet stuck to the floor. The one bedroom smelled like Marijuana, we found part of a Marijuana joint under the bed. I wish I could say something nice. The place has potential but needs more attention to detail.

This property has the basics/everything worksbut we had some issues we wouldn’t expect at this price: 1) a chemical smell from cleaning that gave me a headache and we had to air out the apartment for as long as we could. 2) little drain bugs 3) my daughter found a rusted pin that had been in the main carpet for awhile; it had rusted the carpet when we found it 4) general construction is pretty rough

Property was as listed, neighborhood is a little sketchy, but it is a city! Actual street property is on is coming up & was totally fine. Steps up are no joke in rain-- only beware if you are mobility impaired, otherwise totally fine! Host very responsive & AC & shower superb!

Comfortable Apartment in a Less Than Comfortable Neighborhood
THE GOOD: It’s comfortable-- esp the beds. it’s cold as you need (3 mini split ac's). it’s clean.it’s close to downtown. owner is responsive. THE BAD: it’s not well equipped with basic kitchen items. There are no baking items (ie like a baking sheet, cutting board, or oven mitts). There were 3 coffee mugs (we are a family of 4) and 4 bowls, salad, and dinner plates, but with no dishwasher, it meant hand washing every day after breakfast. This is nitpicky but there were also no wine glasses. We were travelling with the kids.....mama and papa need a glass (or two). We drank out of a juice glass, but still. -There is NO dining table to enjoy a nice meal together. -washer dryer is a combo w zero instructions. Had to text owner and then Google for instructions. We brought less clothes knowing we could do laundry. -No dresser for clothes (lived out of suitcases for 5 days) and needs more towel hooks behind doors. THE UGLY Do your research on the Anacostia neighborhood before you book. It’s a neighborhood that is SLOWLY changing. During the day it seems ok; neighbors were friendly. Let me put it this way...We heard what we thought were fireworks one night. Took an uber the next morning and the driver says 'oh did you hear there was a drive by shooting two blocks over last night?' Um what?! So part of our daily was to get back early enough as we were all kind of scared. Worrying about our safety isn't how we wanted to spend a family vacation.

We couldn’t even stay there. There were bars on the windows, the front of the building looked like it was going to fall apart. The neighborhood was very sketchy and shady. My husband was worried for our safety and the safety of our car. Extremely disappointed that the picture of the outside that is on VRBO, is not what it looks like in person.

While the neighborhood was a bit unsettling, the inside of the home was nice. It accommodated my family well. The owners were very responsive and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, even bringing new linen in the middle of the night.

Cute Apartment
The apartment was nicely appointed and very spacious and comfortable. It was nice to have laundry available. Bus stop and Frederick Douglass park were nearby. Metro is a bit of a walk.
