Yankeetown 1940s Cottage on the Florida Nature Coast

Welcome to Daybook Cottage. My distinctive 1940s cottage is nestled in the heart of the Nature Coast in Yankeetown, Florida. This historical home is freshly renovated with careful attention to detail. While taking care to preserve its historical features, we have provided modern amenities and décor to offer you an authentic experience alongside your relaxing getaway.

My dream for this home began to take shape through my passion for writing. As a storyteller and the author of Daybook.blog, I know the importance of candor and sincerity. I have a positive outlook on life and a desire to inspire others to live their best lives. My 1940s cottage is an extension of my life adventure that I’m thrilled to share with you. Here is just a taste of what you’ll experience at Daybook Cottage.

This charming 2-bedroom 1 bathroom home comfortably sleeps up to three guests. The two bedrooms feature a plush queen-size bed and a twin-size bed, both with crisp, clean linens. The bathroom has a vintage clawfoot tub with a shower attachment and an original iron sink for a unique experience. I share the experience of living in a home from the 1940s without leaving behind the comforts we all love, appreciate, and enjoy.

The fully equipped kitchen boasts stainless steel appliances, solid surface countertops, and all the cookware and dishes you'll need for preparing meals during your stay. Two dining areas are provided. One is nestled in the kitchen beside one of the original awning-wrapped cottage windows while another is inside the sunroom where summer breezes and plenty of Florida sun add to any meal.

The living area is open with wood floors, sunny windows, the original limestone fireplace, and plenty of comfortable seating. The living area opens into the kitchen which allows for easy living and interaction. I personally collected and decorated the interior with vintage and antique furnishings and an occasional modern accessory. You will experience historical living while feeling right at home.

Daybook Cottage has been beautifully and carefully landscaped using plants native to this Florida area. Everything was chosen with nature in mind. The plants you see fit naturally into the landscape and lend themselves to pollinators and birds of all kinds. The back of the home provides a full-size deck with seating inside a fenced backyard. You can expect privacy and security during your stay.

My home is located just a short drive from the Gulf of Mexico and several nature preserves, making this the perfect getaway for those seeking outdoor adventures. Whether you're swimming with the manatee, fishing, kayaking, boating, birdwatching, or catching a nightly sunset at “the end of the road” Daybook Cottage and the Nature Coast offer nearby, endless opportunities to explore. The area also offers antiquing, biking, and plenty of unique dining experiences for a day of relaxation.

When you come, know you will be in a home filled with happiness and history and as much adventure as you’ve dreamed of. Book your stay at my renovated 1940s cottage today and experience the charm of a simple life alongside modern comforts on the Nature Coast in Yankeetown, Florida. I cannot wait to share my cottage with you.

A pause in time
We came to Florida for a vacation from Ohio winter, and what we got was an escape from the modern world. Yankeetown seems to be stuck in a bygone era and this delightful little cottage maintains that sensation inside and out. The peaceful feel of "Old Florida" is preserved in Yankeetown, from the quaint depression era cottages, to the moss draped trees that canopy the quiet roadways throughout the community. It provided a perfect place for bike rides, a walk along the river, or even a special evening out at the Black Water Restaurant, which is conveniently tucked away in the heart of the town. Daybook Cottage had no problem meeting and exceeding our expectations. It was perfect in every way; sunny, clean, safe and comfortable. The owners were so accommodating and friendly, and available whenever we needed them, which was not often. It felt like home from the moment we stepped in and if the "stop time" switch in the bedroom had actually worked, the ritual and responsibilities of our regular life would still be awaiting us in Ohio! Great memories were made and we look forward to a return visit one day. Highly recommend Daybook Cottage!

Best Fishing Trip Ever!
My grandson and I had the best time ever. The house was perfect! Loved the 1940s charm. The house was like brand new. The neighborhood is super quiet. Also the best place to ride bicycles and fish. We took are boat with us. We fished all the rivers and the Gulf. Thank you for everything John. Can't wait to come back is fall. Thank you Jody.
