Excellent

I had a lovely appartment with a four poster bed. There were candles and smooth, white pebbles in the bathroom and a smashing view from the bedroom balcony. Very romantic. Food in the restaurant was excellent. It was also frequented by locals which added some interest. Although the write up said continental breakfast, mine included a sort of omelette on toast and a cheese pie thing, much appreciated as I had a mountain to climb as part of the E4 European long distance walk.
As for the negatives, I had to clean the bath out of dead flies and things before using it, possibly because the flyscreen on the window did not reach the sill. Not so romantic.. Before arriving I was directed to a long form to fill in and upload a copy of my passport. Enough information to break into your bank account! I could not make it work on my phone and so did not fill it in. I emailed Villa Mala to tell them but received no reply. During my stay it was not mentioned so can't have been too important.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
We liked that the room was big and had a huge comfy bed. Also the view of the mountains was very nice from our room. The food at the villa tavern was also good and inexpensive.
The room needs improvements because you can see time has passed over it. Some small improvements can go a long way!
Amazing accommodation in the mountains. Food is great, staff are really nice. About twenty minute drive to Myrtos beach. Would highly recommend a car if staying there.
Hosts can’t do enough for you, setting is astonishingly beautiful and pictures or words won’t do it justice. The food is genuine Greek cuisine cooked and sourced by locals and very fairly priced. The breakfast consisted of 4 courses of delicious food. You would expect to pay 5 times what they ask for and still feel fairly charged. Very kind and accommodating owners, who are genuinely friendly. The rooms are clean while rustically decorating, they have everything you need and more. There is a feel of luxury that you just don’t expect at this price.
Myself and my girlfriend Ilona have had the nicest week imaginable staying at villa mala and really we wish the owners all the best. They deserve success, this hotel is clearly their passion and it shows in the service you receive. My only regret is not having more cash to leave for tips as the staff deserve them!
Quite a drive to get there (DO NOT TRAVEL VIA THE NORTHERN ROUTE) but a wonderful oasis when you arrive.
Rooms and washrooms are big and the food onsite is very good.
We had a lovely stay at Mala Villa. The maisonette we stayed in was clean, spacious and fully met our needs. WiFi problem was rectified. Towels were the fluffiest ever experienced in Greece! Spectacular views from both balconies. Hotel restaurant was very reasonably priced, with a varied menu and flavoursome food - no need to consider anywhere else. Breakfast was also good. Quite a remote village with winding roads leading up to the village. A car is essential. Sad to leave.
We deliberately booked this villa in the mountains for its remoteness and were not disappointed. The journey from Heraklion took about 90 minutes through breathtaking scenery - it cost 120 Euros though, so you need to stay a few days and make the most of the area. There are copious walks with fascinating villages, ancient churches and the nicest locals you'll ever meet. There were no other tourists other than other Greeks on their Easter weekend breaks - we liked that. The villa itself was immaculate and the staff so accommodating - Nikos even walked us to the local church -(built in 1431) and the food in the taverna is all local, authentic and exceptional. They even found me vegan options for the breakfast which is included. My husband loved the local goat cheeses and meat. Returning home after a stroll along the mountain roads, we were invited to join an outdoor Easter dinner with a local family who were roasting a whole lamb over a fire - we were plied with food and raki!! You could hire a car, but we found the roads quite scary to drive as they're so narrow and I didn't feel confident enough. One day, we walked 2 hours and 40 minutes to the beach that you can see from the villa window - it was worth it!! The sea was so clear, warm and calm to swim in and there was fresh calamari and swordfish at the tavernas. For real Crete, this is unequivocally the play to stay and we'd love to go again! we only stayed for one night, but we had the greatest time. we checked in early so we had the whole day. The hotel was situated high up in the mountians, fantastic view, super quiet and relaxing. service was excellent, food incredible, room was super spacious, cozy, great view with a nice balcony, clean and super comfy bed. The staff was very welcoming and nice. we will absolutely recommend this place to anyone who like a more authentic and relaxing stay.
