Hellnar Cottages Sea and Glacier views
A lovely simple comfortable cottage with stunning views of the volcano and glacier, and views out to the sea. Bring binoculars we saw dolphins from the house. The cottage is warm and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The stairs are very steep so be aware of this for small children and older visitors. We had a fantastic time lots of walks close by a lovely bay a short walk away . It is quite an isolated location so bring food drink and entertainment if required. Be prepared to spend your last day washing and cleaning. It takes some time to wash and dry all bedding. Would go back though it was a beautiful introduction to Iceland. We were so lucky and saw whales Orca and Minke plus a Basking shark and seals near by. Lots of bird life. North of the peninsular is well worth a visit, we heard Sèa Eagles and the landscape was stunning. Thank you for an amazing stay.

Wonderful location!
This was such a beautiful spot. We watched the Aurora right on the property two of our four nights there. We saw whales down by the shore. Do keep in mind that cleaning takes a bit, mainly waiting for the laundry. We had to fly out in the afternoon so had to wake up super early to finish it all, but just know that going in. Otherwise the place is well worth staying.

Great little place with incredible location
We stayed 4 nights and absolutely loved it! The place is clean and downstairs is spacious even with a family of 5. The stairs are very steep, so they don’t recommend for anyone with mobility issues or very young kids. The views of Snaefellsjokull are unbelievable and you can also see the ocean on the other side. The location is perfect for exploring the many sights and activities of the peninsula. Note it does take a long time to wash and dry the bed linens on departure (it took almost 5 hours) so you need to start early if you have plans. Thank you for having us!!

5 Days of Sublime Beauty
I did not get to go but the photos my husband & daughter sent were exquisite. They hiked and rode horses and enjoyed the changing weather and dramatic treeless landscape (we live in a forest).

Hellnar is the place to stay
The location of this property is fabulous! It is remote, but we were able to walk to a delicious dinner our first night at the Fosshotel and the National Park is right down the road. We cooked the other nights we were there, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Definitely stop at the Bonus grocery store in Borgarnes because there are no stores nearby. As for activities, we hiked in several locations and we went on a whale watch. However, the best thing we did was to watch the orcas right off the beach! We saw them for 3 days in a row. We split our time in Iceland between Hellnar and Reykjavik and we wish we had stayed longer in Hellnar. The house itself is adorable, although be aware that the stairs are very steep and the only bathroom is downstairs. The only slight negative was that you really need to plan some time for thoroughly cleaning the house before you leave. Fortunately, we had the time, but it's not really what you want to do on vacation. However, I would absolutely stay here again!

Beauty and silence of Snaefellsnes peninsula
Great communication from the start to finish with the owner. Very easy to get a hold off when needed and even reached out to us right when we arrived. We were able to let ourselves in to the beautiful home at the secluded and quiet location in Hellnar. The home is surrounded by a handful of similar homes, but we never heard any noise from anyone. The owner has a set of keys with an alarm that monitors while we were out exploring. It was nice to have even more assurance that our luggage was safe when away. It was great to have a washer and dryer during the stay. So convenient after having stayed at multiple hotels during this trip. There was a nice living room and kitchen with fridge downstairs and a couch and tv upstairs with the three bedrooms. A lot of options to relax after a long day. There are a handful of small restaurants about a 5 minute drive down the road and nicer, larger restaurants and stores within 30 minutes. Very convenient to some top photography locations. We originally wanted to stay in a larger city near they but with everything sold out for the days we wanted, this was what we decided on. A very nice surprise. Would definitely return and recommend to others. The only notice I would leave is that you are asked to wash your sheets and towels at the end of your stay as well as clean the house with cleaning supplies. This wasn’t a problem at all, just wasn’t expecting it. Very easy to keep clean and follow the instructions at checkout.
