Welcome to New River Lure!

New River Lure is a charming three-level, 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom mountain cabin between Boone and West Jefferson on the South Fork of the New River. About 20 miles to Boone, less than 8 miles to West Jefferson, and less than 9 miles to Jefferson, this cabin is convenient to many fun things to do in the High Country. Located only a few miles off Highway 421, guests from Charlotte, Raleigh, or other areas east can get to this cabin faster than most other High Country destinations.

There are numerous areas nearby to drop off your rafts and friends, take a vehicle to a pick-up spot a few miles away, and spend an afternoon rafting down the New River. Nearby river guide services will get you geared up for tubing, kayaking, or rafting. Many guided fly-fishing and reel-fishing options exist for native and released trout, small-mouth bass, and other native sport fish.

Also nearby are Appalachian Ski Mountain (30 miles), Sugar Mountain Ski Resort (40 miles), and Beech Mountain Ski Resort (47 miles) for snow skiing and snowboarding, ice skating, and snow tubing. Hawksnest is a snowtubing park on Seven Devils, less than 40 miles away. Hawksnest also does zipline tours during warmer months. Tweetsie Railroad theme park is about 28 miles away. Grandfather Mountain is only about 38 miles away. Blowing Rock and Valle Crucis are both around 30 miles from the cabin. Many fun activities are in and near Jefferson and south towards Wilkesboro. Great walking and hiking trails exist in the New River Acres neighborhood.

The cabin itself is a charmer! It has five sleeping areas, 4 with beds and one with a sleeper sofa. The main level boasts vaulted tongue-in-groove ceilings, wood walls and floors, and large windows to let in the sunlight. The great room has a stone, floor-to-ceiling fireplace with gas logs, an HDTV, and comfy leather furniture. The kitchen is fully equipped, and a dining table seats six. Also on the main level are two queen bedrooms with HDTVs and a full bathroom in the hallway with a tub and shower combo.

Upstairs features a loft-style master suite with a king-size bed, an HD Smart TV, a desk for quiet work, and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. Downstairs is a family room with a game room and a den. The den serves as a media area with comfy, casual furniture, a large HDTV with a DVD player, and a queen-size sleeper sofa for extra sleeping options. The game room has an eight-foot slate pool table with a ping pong topper. The family room is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows looking at the wooded property and the New River. A sleeping area on the lower level has two twin beds and a full bathroom with a shower.

The main level deck is wrap-around and partly covered but mostly open-air, with Adirondack-style chairs and gliders and a gas grill. The lower deck is covered and features a hot tub and a porch swing. The decks and porches have wooded privacy, and you can look down at the New River as it meanders through the mountains!

New River Lure has central heating and air conditioning, a washer and dryer, HD Smart TVs throughout, digital cable programming, and WiFi internet. You have so much to enjoy out and about in the nearby high country, but on rainy or lazy days, there is plenty to enjoy and keep you entertained at the New River Lure.

Wonderful Relaxing getawy
You can tell the owner takes pride in their property as everything is clean, well taken care of and properly maintained. The jacuzzi tub is clean and relaxing. Overall I would highly recommend this property and based on how well it is taken care of, if they own more listings I would not hesitate one second to rent. Will Definitely Return. A well appreciated vacation and a huge THANK YOU to the owners.

Great Place
This is our second stay at this cabin for a girls weekend for 4. It was wonderfully private, and with 4 bedrooms, perfect for us. The kitchen was well stocked and the house well appointed. We all found the beds comfortable too. The porch has a beautiful wooded view down to the river and comfortable Adirondacks....perfect for morning coffee. Easy hike to the river. Pool table, fireplace, and big farmhouse table for group eating and games...met all our need. Also, easy trek into West Jefferson where there is a nice downtown, great winery and good eats.

Wonderful
The cabin was fantastic. The walk to the river was a bit steep, but was not so daunting it kept me from walking down there multiple times each day. The driveway was a bit steep, but once again, I've been on worse while staying in the mountains. The cabin was well furnished. The bed was comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

Mini Vacation
The cabin was clean and cozy, and just as advertised, the drive was a steep one but not any problems at all getting in or out. I appreciate being able to bring along my fur baby who enjoyed a mini vacay as well. We were not able to tube as planned due to cooler temps and rain though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and West Jefferson. The cabin is conveniently located within a few miles to anything you could possibly need for your stay. West Jefferson offered great food, drinks and shopping as well!

Great Cabin and location
The cabin was great. Plenty of room and it was very clean. The location is pretty private. It is on a hill, so getting to the river is chore. The hike is rough coming back because the trail is pretty uneven and a steep incline. Access to the river is limited. There is a 3-5 ft drop to the river, which is overgrown with tall weeds. If you're looking to trout fish you will have more luck at Elk Shoals Park. The river is beautiful and we saw several large trout.

Felt Like False Advertising…
We booked this property back in November 2021 for our family vacation July 2022. On the website it looked perfect: River access, up in the mountains, enough space for everyone to sleep comfortably. In person there were a number of issues that could have been dealt with better by the property management company. The “easy river access” they advertise is actually a pretty steep hike down what looks like a drainage ditch to the edge of the river which has a private property marked on the right-hand side (which we were warned about ahead of time) and a new sign from a cabin up the road stating the river access is private and only for the residents of that cabin (which we were not warned about). The cabin rental company claimed they didn’t know anything about it but said it should be fine for us to use the river area anyway, but we decided to pass on it since we didn’t want to start trouble with the other cabin owners. The cabin we rented also had pretty bad water pressure to the point that you could hardly even wash dishes by hand, let alone shower unless all the other taps/shower heads in the cabin were turned off. We also had to call the cabin rental company to get extra linens for the pull-out couch they advertise since apparently they had failed to communicate to the housekeeping agency they use that there was a pull-out couch at all and a family member had to go without for a couple nights. The listing also warns about needing 4-wheel or all-wheel drive in the winter due to the steepness of the driveway, but even in the middle of summer I’d advise having it. The driveway was a nightmare to get in and out of in an all-wheel drive Subaru, and we had a family member have to park his sedan near the top of the driveway and walk the rest of the way down to make sure he could get out okay. And for an added bit of excitement, at the very end of our trip we could hear what sounded like squirrels in the walls starting the evening before we checked out, though a family member said they had heard the sounds the first night into our stay. Overall, not totally impressed with this cabin, but I put that blame on the cabin company the rental is managed through, since everything but the initial booking on Vrbo in November was done through them.

Peaceful setting
The house was perfect - used the pool table and whirlpool. The weather was very rainy so we didn't get to enjoy the porch or hike much unfortunately. The driveway was steep and parking would have been challenging with multiple vehicles but it held up to all of the rain! Close enough to Boone and West Jefferson so no need to cook if you don't want to :) Bed was comfortable so we got good rest. Thanks for hosting and allowing us to bring our dog!
