Travel to Isla Contoy, part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, where the wildlife and scenery are protected and white sandy beaches abound. Arrive in the early morning for coffee and a safari briefing before heading out to the whale shark area.

Sharks start appearing as you prepare for the dive in the area north of Isla Mujeres. Swim with these gentle giants while keeping an eye out for manta rays, turtles, dolphins, and more. Groups of two with a certified guide are allowed to dive at once, for an incredibly intimate encounter with these gentle animals.

After your experience with the whale sharks, take a short boat ride to shallow El Che—a nearby crystal-blue reef close to Isla Mujeres—for freshly made seafood ceviche, sandwiches, and drinks. Take time to relax before your journey back to the mainland.
