Pirates of the French Quarter History Tour

by Pirates of the Quarter Tours Duration 1h 30m+ Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is $25

The French Quarter may be known for its spirits (both of the booze and supernatural varieties), but there's one more characteristic that simply can't be missed—its history of pirates. Journey through these storied streets to learn all about pirate life in the 1800s and the remARRkable imprint it's left on the city.

Meet up with a present-day privateer decked head-to-toe in traditional pirate wear. Follow the surly seaman as he leads you through the streets, grumbling and stumbling from perhaps one too many rums. On this historically accurate and hysterically engaging tour, your captain shares surprising knowledge of the history of his ancestors in the district. Laugh along as you hear captivating stories of stealing, smuggling, and sensational sword fights.

As you travel past Jackson Square, peer down Pirate Alley, a narrow lane with a history dating back to the early 1800s. Listen as your guide delights you with the family-friendly tale of pirate Jean Lafitte, who bargained for his brother's “escape” from prison before the Battle of New Orleans. See the bar where Lafitte's ghost is rumored to watch over his patrons, and perhaps get a clue as to where his legendary treasure is buried before your captain lumbers away in search of more rum.

I loved my tour with "The Captain"! I had a private tour which was amazing! Captain has a wonderful, vibrant personality! I enjoyed being escorted around the French Quarter being told about how vital pirates were to keeping New Orleans alive. This was my first trip to New Orleans and I learned so much from the tour. I admired that he was happy to be photographed by French students and passersby. He gave a wonderful, informative narrative about pirate life and their shenanigans and rough life. The part about duels is something you don't learn in schools. Take a walking tour, you'll be glad you did! You get a great feel for the history of NOLA! Thank you, Captain! You made my day and my trip very special!
