What you can expect

See Old St. Johns County Jail come to life through colorful stories told by deputies dressed in period uniform. They guide you through cells, show you old weapons, and share tales of justice and punishment.

Built by railroad magnate Henry Flagler in 1891, Old St. Johns County Jail, also known as The Old Jail, served as the county jail for over 60 years, until 1953, and was said to resemble a fine hotel. Explore the sheriff's quarters, where he and his wife lived adjacent to 72 prisoners. Step inside both male and female cells as well as a maximum security area.

A large collection of guns and weapons used in actual crimes from that time are on display and there are often demonstrations in the courtyard. Before the end of your tour of The Old Jail, you may even encounter the South's most feared sheriff and get fingerprinted.
