What you can expect

Your unforgettable day begins at 7:00 AM with a hotel pick-up in Nairobi, followed by a scenic drive northwest towards Lake Naivasha, nestled within Kenya’s famed Great Rift Valley. As you leave the bustle of the city behind, you'll be treated to sweeping views of dramatic escarpments, lush farmlands, and the winding corridor of the Rift—a geological wonder that stretches from Lebanon to Mozambique.

As the road descends into the valley, you'll catch your first glimpse of Lake Naivasha, a serene freshwater lake fringed by papyrus reeds and home to a rich variety of wildlife. Upon arrival, your adventure continues with a 1-hour boat ride across the tranquil waters of the lake. Glide past hippos basking near the shore, observe fish eagles swooping down for their catch, and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of nature all around you.

Your boat journey will take you to the beautiful Crescent Island, one of the few places in Kenya where you can walk freely among wild animals. This private sanctuary is home to zebras, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks, and numerous bird species.

After returning from Crescent Island, you’ll head to Elsamere, the former home of renowned conservationists Joy and George Adamson. Set in lush gardens on the lake’s edge, this historic estate now serves as a conservation center and museum. You'll be welcomed with a buffet lunch in the garden, overlooking the lake—a perfect spot to relax and reflect on the day’s experiences.

Following lunch, enjoy a 40-minute documentary on the life and legacy of Joy Adamson, best known for raising a lioness named Elsa and returning her to the wild—an inspiring story that led to the internationally acclaimed film Born Free. This short film provides valuable insight into Joy and George’s pioneering conservation efforts and their deep connection with wildlife.

After the video, explore the Elsamere Museum, where you'll find original memorabilia from the Born Free film, Joy’s vibrant tribal art prints, personal photographs, and copies of the many books she and George authored—translated into various languages and recognized globally for their impact. Awards and honors from across the world showcase their dedication to wildlife preservation and education.

Before heading back to Nairobi, enjoy High Tea in the garden—a delightful spread of tea or coffee served with fresh cakes and biscuits, all while surrounded by nature and birdsong. It's a peaceful and reflective end to a day filled with discovery, history, and wildlife.

The return journey to Nairobi will begin in the late afternoon, with arrival back at your hotel in the early evening, filled with memories of a day that connects the past and future of conservation in Kenya.

Additional Notes:
The timing of the boat ride may vary depending on water levels and weather conditions. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes, walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat or cap for protection from the sun.
