Description

An Ancient Cultural Journey!

One of the most overlooked gems on Scenic Route 66 is found just off the infamous Route 66 Highway in Northwest Arizona. The Grand Canyon Caverns discovered by 1927 were formed after millions of years of sea creatures formed limestone layers, followed by millions of years of rainfall seeping through cracks eroding the limestone creating tunnels of flowing water. The caverns are now dry which is rare as only about 3 in every 100 caverns are dry. A giant 11-million-year-old sloth named Gertie is a favorite artifact on the trail, standing over 15 feet tall and would have weighed over a ton. The temperature in the caves is a constant 67 degrees year-round at about 210 feet. Lunch at the Cavern’s Grill and personal tour guide through the caverns is included in this package.

A scenic drive through the Hualapai Indian Reservation on Route 66 back thru Kingman to the Route 66 Museum completes this prodigious tour.
