What you can expect
Flamingo Gardens is a 60 acre not-for-profit Botanical Garden Collection of native, exotic and rare plant species. It is also an Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary for injured and endangered animals. Flamingo Gardens has been a part of the South Florida Community for the past 91 years.
Your visit will offer you a taste of the Tropical environment of South Florida and the past. The Wray Botanical Collection features 17 of the largest trees of their species in the state making them Florida Champion Trees. Specialized gardens include the Butterfly, Hummingbird, Bromeliad and Croton Gardens.The centerpiece is a natural hammock of 200 year old Oaks dripping with orchids and epiphytes.
The Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the largest collection of Florida native wildlife and includes Alligators, Bobcats, Otters, Eagles, Panthers, Peacocks and of course, Flamingos. It is residence to over 90 species of birds and animals, most of which are permanently injured and/or non-releasable. The Bird of Prey Center features hawks, falcons, owls, osprey, and other raptors. The Free-Flight Aviary contains over 250 wading birds, representing 45+ species, making it one of the largest wading bird collections in the country.
