What you can expect
Bring your family or friends to enjoy a relaxed day trip to meet one of the most amazing places in Portugal, the Arrabida Natural Park and the Sado Estuary.
This is an immense protected area, involving a large natural and historic heritage, like a wonderful bay, a gorgeous estuary refuge for thousands of birds, a permanent dolphins colony, wonderful beaches, a promontory with a legendary shrine, medieval castles, fossil trails of dinosaur and breathtaking views.
Also integrated in this vast landscape there are vineyards and olive groves, fishing ports and restaurants of excelent seafood.
In this day trip we leave Lisbon to Arrabia with a first stop in the most notorious belvedere to admire the best sights of Lisbon, the Christ the King Statue. From here you get a real approach to understand the maritime vocation of the city along its history.
Heading to south we’ll visit a well known winery at the foothills of Arrabida in Azeitão, where we’ll come across with very ancient olive trees, planted by the Romans 2000 years ago. An optional wine tasting may be made if someone in the group is interested.
Driving west we reach the westernmost point of our trip, the Espichel Cape, a secluded promontory over the ocean, where the scenic landscape of the fossil coast was whilom considered an edge of the world. From those old times came the sacred spirit of the place and later a christian legend raised a faith site to Our Lady in a stunning shrine. Close to the place, some cliffs expose vestiges older than millions of years, the dinosaurs fossil trails. We'll observe a few of them on a closer site.
On the way back to east we'll visit a medieval castle in Sesimbra with beatiful views over the town and the ocean.
After a scenic drive across Arrabida peaks to admire the breathtaking views, we reach Setubal City. Here we’ll see the fishing port, the bay and the estuary.
Optionaly to the wine tasting stop in Azeitão, we may visit in Setubal the dolphin interpretation center, an old tide mill and a bird watching spot in the Sado estuary.
