What you can expect

Explore the deep and mysterious jungles of Petén, where several ruins lay hidden underneath the thick forest canopy. You can visit two of the great ancient Mayan cities that held a great influence during the classic era of Mesoamerica and constitute some of the most iconic locations in Guatemala.

Day 1: Head out from your hotel to La Aurora Airport, where you board a flight to Flores and make your way from there to Yaxha. Located 40 miles (64 km) from Flores within the Maya Biosphere Reserve, the Petén rainforest is a vast jungle that hides a great many ruins, with Yahxa being only one of dozens.

Once a ceremonial center with a particular affinity for astronomy, Yaxha is located near a lake that hosts Topoxte, a smaller site, across the water. After your visit, have a traditional Guatemalan lunch before you head back to Flores.

Day 2: In the morning, visit Tikal National Park, the site of Guatemala's most iconic pyramids. Tikal was once a dominant city-state within this region, dictating the course of affairs in its neighbors. You can visit the Q Complex, Plaza Central, Acropolis North and Center, Lost World, and Temple IV, where you can admire the imposing structures amid the green of the jungle.

Next, have a traditional Guatemalan lunch before a return flight brings your tour to an end.
