Overview

Visit the archeological site of Uxmal + a chocolate museum + a beautiful cenote with crystal-clear waters, all in one day on a private tour from Merida.

The first stop of the tour will be the archeological site of Uxmal. This is an ancient Mayan City, as important as others like Chichen Itza, Palenque, and Tikal. This big city used to control over 350 villages around.

You will fall in love with the pyramids, history, and legacy of this city. Then come with us to a chocolate museum, to understand why cacao was so important for the Mayas.

Cacao has been used as a type of money to exchange goods, some chocolate-based beverages were given only to governors as this was a direct connection with their gods.

Finally, at the end of the tour, visit one of the most mesmerizing cenotes in the region. This is a cavern-type cenote with turquoise waters. Swim, relax, and enjoy.

This tour is the best way to know Merida, its culture, heritage, history, archeology, gastronomy, and nature.

Activity itinerary

Merida
  • 1h
We will start this adventure by picking you up at the lobby of your hotel in Merida. The ride to get to the Archeological Site of Uxmal is just 1 hour. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, relax and get ready for the adventure to start. Remember that we will follow all biosecurity protocols for your safety and well-being. If there´s anything you need, don´t doubt to request it from our professional staff, who will be more than happy to help you.
Uxmal
  • 2h
Once we arrive at Uxmal, you will be amazed by its big pyramid called the "fortune teller's pyramid". There´s a whole legend behind it and our tour guide will give you all the details of each building so you don´t miss a thing. We will have a full tour here, and we will not only see the main pyramids but also the smaller constructions. One of the most beautiful edifications here is called The Nun´s Quadrangle with many inscriptions for their gods and their governors. The importance of this city is the same as Chichen Itza, Palenque, and Tikal. Don´t let the small size of the city make you believe the opposite.
Choco Story uxmal
  • 2h
  • Admission ticket included
Right in front of the Uxmal Archeological Site, the chocolate museum "Choco-Story" is located. This is a combination of a museum and an animal refuge. Learn about the importance of chocolate for the pre-Hispanic culture, its meaning, its value, and how they used to drink it. Also, whisper a Mayan ceremony dedicated to cacao. This ceremony is performed by authentic Mayas and it is the closest to how these ceremonies took place in the past. After this, have some free time to know about the animals that find a home here. They are rescued and live here because of animal traffic or human interference, they can´t live in nature anymore. Feed them, get to know about them, and have fun!
Cenote Choj Ha
  • 2h
  • Admission ticket included
The last part of our tour will be the visit to a cenote with crystal-clear refreshing water. The Choj Ha Cenote was discovered 30 years ago and was until 2010 that the work on the development of this site as a tourist attraction began. The name of the cenote means Dripping Water. This is a cavern type of cenote and it is very young compared to others that have no ceiling. The age of cenotes can be calculated quite easily. If it has no ceiling it is old, if it is a semi-open cenote, it is not old or young... it´s in the middle. If it still has the ceiling, it is a young one. All security equipment will be given to you and you will always be supervised by professionals in the matter. Swim in the refreshing waters and have fun! Take time to take some pictures and enjoy. This is not a crowded place so you will have the time to relax and appreciate the views.
Merida
