What you can expect

Travel back in time with a charming ride on this nostalgic carousel situated in one of Philadelphia's original squares. Bring the family for a fun-filled whirl on the all-American merry-go-round, which features hometown racehorse heroes Afleet Alex and Smarty Jones.

Grab a spot on the old-fashioned carousel, which celebrates Philly's rich carousel-making history through its use of original horse molds from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The merry-go-round also features wild animals like a zebra and a lion, as well as America's national bird—the bald eagle.

As you spin along, recount the history of Franklin Square, which first opened in 1683 during the planning of Philadelphia. Originally called North East Publick Square, the park was renamed in 1825 in honor of Benjamin Franklin. In the early years, it was used for storing gunpowder during the American Revolution and drilling soldiers during the War of 1812. It now houses the Parx Liberty Carousel, the Franklin Square Fountain, Philly Mini Golf, and 2 playgrounds.
