What you can expect

Spend a day surrounded by amazing Rocky Mountain landscape as your naturalist wildlife tour guide presents the unforgettable wildlife and scenery of Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge. This excursion takes you through the wintry roads of Grand Teton and shows off the park's diverse collection of scenery and wildlife as you learn the stories that lie behind the sights. You'll enjoy an afternoon sleigh ride onto the National Elk Refuge after a hearty lunch in Jackson, Wyoming.

Your friendly guide meets you for the ride out from your hotel and into the protected stretch of country framed by the peaks of the Teton Range. Witness the beauty of the wide, snowy plains that stretch out to the jagged mountains. You will learn about the ancient geology that gave rise to the landscape and the human history that makes this magical location come alive.

As you make your way through the park, keep your binoculars that are provided for use on the tour handy for a chance to spot hawks or eagles swooping through the sky, moose or bighorn sheep, wolves and coyotes on the prowl, or iconic bison that stand out against the snow.

After experiencing a restaurant lunch in downtown Jackson, Wyoming, the tour commences at the National Elk Refuge. At the National Elk Refuge, a horse-drawn sleigh carries you through the low valley that hosts thousands of wintering elk for another spectacular sight. You will find yourself in the middle of a western adventure unlike any other. This century long tradition continues to be a one of a kind wildlife activity. It’s an amazing and exciting way to discover first hand new things about the area’s wildlife. As you venture across the Refuge to the sounds of snow crunching beneath the horses’ feet, you will encounter sights that can only be found on the National Elk Refuge. You will have the opportunity to see thousands of elk that make the National Elk Refuge their home for the winter season. You may also encounter other wildlife such as eagles, coyotes, foxes, badgers, bison, deer, wolves as well as trumpeter swans, ducks, geese and a variety of other birds.
