Niagara Falls<\/a> is one of the very first tourist attractions in the United States\u2014it\u2019s a destination that still attracts millions of visitors each year. We wanted to know about some of the things to do beyond Niagara Falls USA, so we asked Mike Shubic of MikesRoadTrip.com to share a few of his suggestions. <\/em><\/p>\n\"Niagara\n

Tourists from around the world head to northwestern New York, along the Canadian border, to experience the beauty and allure of Niagara Falls USA<\/a>. Visitors may not know this, but there are actually three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls, with many different vantage areas to take in the splendor of this iconic place.<\/p>\n

Visitors may also not realize that there are many wonderful things to do beyond the falls. Here are my five favorite things you can\u2019t miss when visiting Niagara Falls USA.<\/p>\n

Old Fort Niagara<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The majority of visitors to Niagara Falls completely bypass Old Fort Niagara, which is at the top of my list of things to do when visiting the area. Located just 15 miles north, on a bluff overlooking Lake Ontario, Fort Niagara<\/a> is one of the oldest military installations in the country.<\/p>\n\"Old\n

Visitors are able, and encouraged, to immerse themselves into this historical site. The large complex has drawbridges, bunkhouses, lookout towers and other artifacts to peruse. Along with platoons performing marching exercises, armed guards with muskets in hand dressed in period attire, as well as many other demonstrations and re-enactments to observe, you truly feel like you\u2019ve stepped back in time.<\/p>\n

Lewiston<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Lewiston is an idyllic village located in the same direction as Fort Niagara, but half as far. This charming community is absolutely worth a visit. You\u2019ll find a music and cultural venue called ArtPark that attracts some surprisingly big names. There are also top-notch restaurants, public artwork and outdoor recreation.<\/p>\n\"Artpark\n

There are several wonderful hiking trails in and\/or near Lewiston. The upper ArtPark Gorge Trail offers a gradual climb to the top where it meets up with the rim trail, which leads to Devil\u2019s Hole State Park and overlooks the Devil’s Hole Rapids. The park has an incredible scenic overlook along with picnic areas, and is one of the more popular spots for fishing.<\/p>\n\"Lewiston\n
