If it’s beach time you’re seeking, head to Boguedita port and get a public speed boat to Isla de Bar\u00fa<\/strong>, which is home to the aptly-named Playa Blanca<\/strong>. Just beyond the walls of the old town, there are some unfamiliar horizons, as well. While Getsemani features similar architecture to what you’ll find inside the walled city, it has a bit less polish and more graffiti. Upmarket Bocagrande is where the upper crust of Cartagena hangs out. If it’s beach time you’re seeking, head to Boguedita port and get a public speed boat to Isla de Bar\u00fa<\/strong>, which is home to the aptly-named Playa Blanca<\/strong>. Travel north and eastward along the Caribbean coast toward the city of Santa Marta<\/strong>, where you’ll find mythical Tayrona National Park<\/strong> and diving hot spot Taganga<\/strong>. Along the way you’ll pass through Barranquilla\u2014Shakira’s hometown! Alternatively, take a domestic flight from Cartegena to the dozen of destinations you can reach using Colombia’s local airlines such as festive Cali<\/strong> or the coffee plantations surrounding Medell\u00edn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Cartagena might not be a Caribbean getaway you’ve previously considered, but it’s definitely the one you picture in your dreams.
