Winter blues have you dreaming of somewhere a little more like … summer? Good news! We\u2019ve partnered with travel writer and Caribbean expert Angie Orth from Angie Away to learn about St. Lucia<\/a>, one of the most luxurious and fun islands in the world. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a rare destination that melds romance and wild adventure so well, but St. Lucia has mixed that combination into the perfect tropical cocktail! Add to that a mix of bubbling volcanic mud, two towering mountains and some of the most unique accommodations<\/a> you can find in the world, and I think you\u2019ll fall for St. Lucia like I did.<\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

Climbing Gros Piton<\/a> is a time-honored pastime for many island visitors. It\u2019s not one I personally wanted to try, but my intrepid husband did. And while he vigorously worked his way up the mountain, I got a massage. There\u2019s a little something for everyone on St. Lucia, I\u2019m happy to report.<\/span><\/p>\n

For a rush of adrenaline, book an experience with Soufri\u00e8re Hotwire Rides. As you zip <\/span>around the rainforest, you\u2019ll see Petit Piton, the Caribbean Sea, former plantations and <\/span>the colorful town of Soufri\u00e8re from a birds\u2019 eye view. Soufri\u00e8re actually means \u201csulfurous <\/span>air” in French, and as you zip around, you\u2019ll soon know why. Luckily, the warm breeze <\/span>keeps that volcano scent from lingering!<\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n\"Roaming\n\"Roaming\n

If you want to see Soufri\u00e8re\u2019s natural wonders in one day, check out the Soufri\u00e8re <\/span>Experience tour. You get to visit the botanical garden, with hundreds of tropical plant <\/span>species; take a dip in freezing Diamond Falls and enjoy the mineral baths near Torille <\/span>Waterfall. The best part was getting covered in stinky, sulfurous mud from the volcano \u2014 <\/span>the only volcano in the world you can drive right into. It\u2019s hot and steamy and bubbly, but <\/span>the caldera exploded many thousands of years ago. While the island is still geothermal, <\/span>it\u2019s not in any danger of erupting!<\/span><\/p>\n

When you\u2019re visiting a Caribbean island<\/a>, you absolutely have to spend some time <\/span>in the water. St. Lucia\u2019s underwater world is colorful and filled with life, and it\u2019s easy to <\/span>get to. There are no long boat rides to the best snorkel spots. Many are right off shore! <\/span><\/p>\n\"Roaming\n

So where should you stay on a visit to St. Lucia? There are so many options! I recently <\/span>visited adults-only Ladera Resort<\/a>, winner of the Private Luxury Hotel of the Year Award <\/span>by Luxury Travel Guide and named one of Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler\u2019s \u201c16 Most Romantic Places to <\/span>Stay in the World.\u201d In a word, the place is enchanting! For fans of unique architecture, Ladera has dozens of noteworthy features. Forget <\/span>everything you thought you knew about about walls and windows! Ladera\u2019s suites <\/span>purposefully have only three walls. Where the fourth should be, instead you\u2019ll find one of <\/span>the most spectacular hotel views in all the world. Terra cotta floors, colorful tiles and hand-carved wood throughout add to the <\/span>distinctly St. Lucian ambiance. Private, in-room plunge pools overlooking the Pitons and butler service <\/span>mean you could stay in your suite for your whole vacation and have the best time if you <\/span>wanted to. But, you will want to leave your room, even if just at mealtime.
