It would be perfectly natural to imagine that the top-rated cruise ship in the world sails right out of her port. And upon your arrival into the central train station, you will find that you have landed yourself into Oslo\u2019s version of the avenue Champs-Elysee: Karl Johans Gate, the main thoroughfare and a perfect place to begin your exploration of this Viking city.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15735\" style=\"width: 751px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelocity.com\/inspire\/wp-content\/uploads\/rsinspire\/20160711084446\/IMG_3866.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15735\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15735\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelocity.com\/inspire\/wp-content\/uploads\/rsinspire\/20160711084446\/IMG_3866.jpg\" alt=\"Folk Art Museum, Oslo, Norway and the \u201c#1 Luxury Cruise Ship in the World\u201d that Americans Have Never Heard Of\" width=\"741\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15735\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by PointsandTravel<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I usually centrally locate myself in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelocity.com\/Oslo-Hotels-Radisson-Blu-Plaza-Hotel.h17362.Hotel-Information?rm1=a2&amp;hwrqCacheKey=4d3e0e34-9c31-4249-9925-b2f22a81d4e3HWRQ1468254402496&amp;c=b8cf1fca-2698-4d58-86f1-e3d9b2716bae&amp;&amp;exp_dp=127.55&amp;exp_ts=1468254402822&amp;chkin=07\/11\/2016&amp;chkout=07\/12\/2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hotel near the train station<\/a>,&nbsp;but there are many options available for you to get settled in and begin to do all the \u201cdon\u2019t miss\u201d things in Oslo:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Take a walk down Oslo\u2019s Karl Johns Gate<\/strong>, where restaurants, parks, museums, and shops abound. The street is a bustling hub that makes for great people watching.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pointsandtravel.com\/magical-48-hours-oslo-norway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vigeland Sculpture Park<\/a><\/strong>, a massive park with fountains and tree-lined \u201cstreets\u201d of over 200 sculptures, all made from one man, as well as his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pointsandtravel.com\/shhh-its-a-secret-emanuel-vigeland-mausoleum-in-oslo-norway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brother\u2019s mausoleum<\/a> (a different secret I found out about on an earlier visit).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take a day trip to the Fjords of Oslo<\/strong>, take the ferry to the nearest Island of Hovedova, where you can hike trails and find the ruins of a monastery from the 1100\u2019s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gaze at the Holmenkollen Ski Jump<\/strong>: Skiers have been hurling themselves off long before this reconstructed landmark was unveiled for visitors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stop by the spectacular and modern Opera House <\/strong>(shaped like the hull of a ship), that typically has free art installations and excellent views of the city by walking on its rooftop.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pointsandtravel.com\/viking-queen-viking-ship-museum-in-oslo-norway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viking Ship Museum<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;and the <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/norskfolkemuseum.no\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norsk Folkemuseum<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, spend the day wandering around and learning the history of the Nordic vessels and the lives of the Nordic people.
