And Travelocity customers seem to agree, ranking their top four most-wanted attractions in a summer vacation as Beaches, National Parks, Amusement Parks<\/strong> and Historical City Landmarks<\/strong> in our recent Summer Vacation Index survey<\/a>. Beaches <\/strong><\/h2>\n

It\u2019s hard to beat a day at the beach. And summer\u2019s sultry weather makes it even easier to find an excuse to grab your favorite swimsuit, a colorful towel and some flip-flops for a casual afternoon filled with sand and sun. Whether you love to get out into the water to meet your favorite sea creatures on an exotic snorkeling adventure<\/a> or would rather lounge under a palm tree, beaches offer the perfect escape for both adventure lovers and thrill seekers.<\/p>\n\"HammockLounging\"\n

Stay close to home without feeling like it with a weekend jaunt to Florida\u2019s Miami Beach<\/a>, or go a little further south to the Florida Keys <\/a>for a remote Caribbean escape \u2014 complete with the opportunity to explore the only living coral reef in the U.S.! \u2014 that only seems worlds away. (Perfect for those who would rather trade in flight time for more beach time.) Perhaps you already live by a fantastic beach, and are looking to explore a different kind of scenic wonder. Lucky for you, there are 59 national parks in the U.S.<\/a> to choose from, and all of them are sure to make even the most screen-dependent members of your family drop their devices and take in the views. This year marks the National Park Service\u2019s 100th<\/sup> year, making the journey to finding your park even more exciting.<\/p>\n\"Moose\"\n

Opt for American classics everyone must visit at least once in their lifetime, like Arizona\u2019s Grand Canyon<\/a>, Colorado\u2019s Rocky Mountains<\/a> or Montana\u2019s Yellowstone National Park<\/a>. Stick to one state and hit nine in California, home to the favorites like Yosemite National Park<\/a> and Death Valley<\/a>, along with some more hidden gems like Channel Islands<\/a> \u2014 five islands off the Southern California coast that make up one of America\u2019s most remote of national parks. If your summer isn\u2019t complete without a hoarse voice and totally-worth-it rollercoaster headache, then buckle up for the ride of your life! Growing up, amusement parks were always at the top of my list for a summertime adventure that wasn\u2019t too far from home and wouldn\u2019t break the bank (and I couldn\u2019t resist the entertainment of convincing my parents to ride the highest coasters and the wettest water rides.) Whether it\u2019s a trip with a little one to meet Mickey for the first time at a Disney theme park<\/a>, satisfying a movie buff\u2019s hunger to experience the big screen in the fast lane at Universal Studios<\/a>, or testing your bravery on the tallest of rides at Six Flags<\/a>, there\u2019s truly something for everyone!<\/p>\n\"CarouselRide\"\n

Another great thing about theme parks? They\u2019re often located in attraction-packed destinations, so if you want to squeeze in a little sightseeing, hit the beach or even stop by a national park or historical landmark, you\u2019ll likely find one nearby. Great options include Orlando<\/a> and the Los Angeles<\/a> area, but don\u2019t forget unique favorite in between like Pennsylvania\u2019s Hersheypark<\/a>, Ohio\u2019s King\u2019s Island<\/a> and Cedar Point<\/a> and Missouri\u2019s nostalgia-inducing Silver Dollar City<\/a>. Sounds like a good excuse for a road trip<\/a> to me!<\/p>\n

Historical City Landmarks <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Is there a timeless treasure you\u2019ve always wanted to see? Make this the summer you do! Your Facebook friends will be jealous when you take a selfie alongside your favorite historical city landmarks, and who can blame them? These storied attractions have stood the test of time, amazing travelers for decades \u2026 or even centuries!<\/p>\n\"Williamsburg\"\n

No journey to the past is complete without a visit to Colonial Williamburg<\/a>, and a short 2.5-hour drive to Washington D.C<\/a>. to see how things have evolved since America\u2019s Founding Fathers first established our country. For more American firsts, head to Boston<\/a>, home to the first large free municipal public library, the first subway system, the first public school and the first public park \u2014 how\u2019s that for a trailblazer? For controlled cultural chaos, New Orleans<\/a> is the perfect spot, where the famed Bourbon Street brings together European-style architecture, creole cuisine, classic jazz music and a whole lot of fun.<\/p>\n\"AlcatrazIsland\"\n

Prefer to head to the West Coast? You\u2019ll find plenty of history on that side of the country, too! Check out San Francisco\u2019s awe-inspiring Golden Gate Bridge<\/a> and Alcatraz Island<\/a> (also a national park!) and San Diego\u2019s Balboa Park<\/a> to name just a handful.<\/p>\n
