1. Meet people on Meetup<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Meetup is a social media network \u2014 one of the 20 most popular in the world \u2014 that seems to be woefully underutilized in many other American cities. Not in Vegas. Presumably because of the highly transient nature of the city and its residents, Meetup is heavily used by locals and visitors alike.<\/p>\n

Find a group with whom you can go out to dinner, enjoy some local craft beers, hit a club, play kickball, or our personal favorite, go out on a hike in Red Rock National Conservation Area \u2014 a stunning, almost alien landscape of red rock formations and sandstone peaks 20 minutes from the Strip. (Just pay careful attention to hiking descriptions, bring plenty of water, and do not overestimate your own hiking skill level, especially if you’re never hiked out here before.)<\/p>\n\"iStock_000085982091_Medium\"<\/a>\n

2. Seriously, go hiking<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Whether with a Meetup group or not, ditch the Strip and enjoy the nearly countless draw-dropping views the Las Vegas Valley has to offer. Within an hour’s drive or less you can be out in Valley of Fire, the Lake Mead National Conservation Area, Mt. Charleston, and Red Rock. Whether you\u2019re an experienced climber or a hiking novice, there are hikes for people of all skill levels. Las Vegas’s best kept secret is its easy accessibility to the great outdoors; outdoors enthusiasts can really enjoy themselves here without ever stepping foot inside a casino, and meet others who are like-minded.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000050094118_Medium\"<\/a>\n

3. Scope out the singles scene<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There\u2019s a difference between traveling solo and traveling single; here we’re trying to include a little bit for both, but if you\u2019re actively on the singles scene then get your bathing suit on and hit one of the popular day clubs where scantily-clad singles dance to the sounds of the world’s top DJs. If you like the idea of the pool party but don\u2019t like the idea of the brutal Las Vegas sun bearing down on you as you’re getting your dancing and drinking on, check out Encore Beach Club at night for equal doses of pool and party.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000070097877_Medium\"<\/a>\n

4. Treat yourself to a lavish dinner<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Las Vegas might just have the the highest concentration of high-profile celebrity chef restaurants in the country. They are flashy and they are fancy and they are definitely not cheap. But if you’re out solo, there\u2019s also probably no better place in the country to drop a Benjamin or two on dinner. It\u2019s so entirely common to find people eating alone here \u2014 especially conventioneers and other business travelers \u2014 that it\u2019s easy to brush off the (completely unjustified) stigma and walk into a place like L’Atelier by Joel Robuchon, saunter on over to the bar, and proudly proclaim, “Just one tonight.” Then put a serious hurt on that tasting menu and test the human limit of foie gras consumption.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000082957249_Medium\"<\/a>\n

5. See a nude revue<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you’re with your single pals for a night out on the town, you might enjoy a little bit of Sin City skin. Check out semi-nude male and female revues like Chippendales and X Burlesque, or if you’ve got a bit of a sense of humor and a penchant for the slightly offbeat, Zombie Burlesque might be the show for you.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000084531487_Medium\"<\/a>\n

6. Have an only-in-Vegas experience<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In Vegas, you can do a lot of things. In fact, you can do anything. And there are certain things you can really only do here, up to and including but not limited to the following: Shoot a machine gun, shoot paintballs at zombies, drive construction equipment, fly in a fighter jet, and race a Lamborghini. 7. Go on a self-guided brewery tour<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Craft beer culture in Las Vegas has been a bit slow to gain the kind of momentum it has in other cities, but don’t count it out quite yet. Several new breweries have opened and expanded in recent years, making for an increasingly respectable local beer scene. Among the places you can hit up: Banger Brewing, Hop Nuts Brewing, Joseph James Brewing Co., Big Dog’s Brewing Company, Tenaya Creek Brewery, Bad Beat Brewing, CraftHaus Brewery, Old School Brewing Company, and PT’s Brewing Co.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000083041355_Medium\"<\/a>\n

8. Laugh … and then get people laughing with you<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One thing Vegas doesn’t get nearly enough credit for is its robust comedy scene, from the smallest little hole-in-the-wall amateur venues and improv troupes to the sold-out theater performances from the likes of Seinfeld and Amy Schumer. (Let’s not forget our local fixture, adoptive Las Vegan Carrot Top.)<\/p>\n

If you’re just simply in the mood to laugh, Vegas can accommodate you every day of the week. And if you want to get laughed at in the attempt of making people laugh \u2014 that’s the same thing, right? \u2014 there are plenty of places where you can go to learn the art of improv and plug into the local comedy community. Start with the Las Vegas Comedy Institute and find your inner Louis C.K.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000035384842_Medium\"<\/a>\n

9. Gorge on a buffet<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This is Vegas. Perhaps you’ve heard about our fine buffets? Perhaps you’ve even been to one, with other people\u2026other people who maybe don\u2019t understand that the whole point of a buffet is to eat everything. If you’re by yourself (or even if you need to ditch your friends or significant others for some much-needed “me” time), the greatest way to embrace the ridiculous decadence of the Las Vegas buffet is to fully commit yourself to it for as long as you possibly can (and\/or until they kick you out, but pro tip: if you keep tipping, they’ll keep cleaning your plates away without asking you to leave).<\/p>\n

There are many to choose from but we’ll make this easy for you: Wicked Spoon and The Buffet at Wynn, the end. Extra credit: weekend Bellini brunch at the Seasons Buffet inside the Silverton Casino; $17.99 with the Silverton Rewards Card ($19.99 otherwise) and it includes bottomless mimosas and Bellinis.<\/p>\n\"iStock_000076737731_Medium\"<\/a>\n

10. Gamble, because this is still Vegas<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You can definitely gamble here too, even if the casinos are actively seeking out other revenue streams outside of the risky business of gambling (the house doesn’t always win, it seems!). This is still the home of the World Series of Poker, after all.
