Singapore is a spectacular city with lots of activities for families. It’s remarkably safe, clean and easy to get around, making it an ideal destination when traveling with kids. We’ve partnered with Oregon-based blogger Meagan Wristen, of Mommy Travels, who just returned from a family trip to Singapore.

Just last month, the kids and I journeyed to Singapore. It was our first time in Asia, and Singapore basically blew our minds. From the epic architecture to the pristine subways, we were left impressed. Singapore is definitely family-friendly and a great a place to vacation with kids. Here are 6 things to do with kids that will help you plan your own family trip to Singapore!

6 Things to Do in Singapore with Kids

1. Marina Bay

Marina Bay is an interesting place to walk around. The architecture is over-the-top, and there are all kinds of things to do and see packed into this one area.

  • Art – They have revolving art exhibits spread out that you can look at.
  • Jumping Area for Kids – The day we visited they had a massive inflatable bounce playground for kids.
  • Formula One – They have Formula One pits and starting line.
  • Flywheel – The Flywheel is the name of their large ferris wheel. It reaches a max height of 541 feet.
  • Shopping Mall – There is a massive, elaborate mall if you feel like shopping.
  • Marina Bay Gardens – These elaborate gardens that will impress anyone. People can walk around the gardens and even go up to the walkways in the sky. This area is especially beautiful at night! It’s also an ideal spot to snap some family photos.
  • Cloud Dome – There are two domes at Marina Bay that you can tour. If you only have enough time for one, definitely visit the Cloud Dome. It features a large indoor waterfall that will cool you off on a hot day. You can walk around different levels throughout the dome and enjoy views of the surrounding areas.
  • Merlion – Visit their famous Merlion and the baby Merlion. The Merlion is Singapore’s famous statue.

2. Eat!

Everyone says that you go to Singapore to eat. Now that’s not why we went, but we certainly were not going to pass up the opportunity to try out some of their cuisine. There are many food tours available. To see the un-touristy parts of Singapore and eat like a local, try the Makan Bus. They essentially transport passengers around to 12 different stops and suggest places to eat. Passengers can pop on and off the bus throughout the day and eat whatever fancies them the most. Not on their suggested list, but worth visiting, is Benjamin Browns’s inside the Orchard Shopping Center. Kids will be in heaven at Benjamin Brown’s as soon as they see the over-the-top whimsical milkshakes made with things like fruity pebbles and cotton candy. If there is no time to do a food tour, here are some foods to be on the lookout for while roaming around Singapore:

  • Laksa Ikan – Coconut curry soup
  • Pari – Grilled BBQ stingray with chili
  • Nasi Lemak – Rice dish with coconut and pandan leaves
  • Prata – Fried flatbread served with curry
  • Kaya Toast – Crispy toast with sweet coconut jam
  • Bakkuteh – Pork rib soup

3. Go Swimming

Singapore is hot and humid, so make sure wherever you stay has a pool. If there is not a pool, consider heading out to Adventure Cover Water Park. Here you can snorkel through a coral reef and ride fun rides. Another fun place to swim is Splash, a 23,000 square foot indoor water playground at Kidz Amaze.

4. Indoor Trampoline Park

On a hot day or a rainy day families need something to do indoors. Kids will love Bounce, an indoor trampoline park. Bounce is the largest indoor trampoline in Singapore. Kids can bounce, climb, zip line and more. Plus, parents will appreciate all the energy their child manages to burn off.

5. Universal Studios

There is a Universal Studios in Singapore out on Sentosa Island. It is way cheaper to visit this Universal than the one in the United States! If you book on Travelocity you can get a dining credit along with your ticket. Here your family can enjoy 24 rides, meet characters, and more.

6. Get a Babysitter and Go Out!

I cannot write about what to do with the kids without throwing in at least a few adults-only thing to do. I mean after you have done all this stuff with your kids, you have earned a night out. The Singapore Sling was invented at the historic Raffles Hotel, and I recommend you head to one of their bars to try one. These drinks are expensive! Get your one drink so you can say you did it, then go somewhere else more reasonably priced. Across the street from Raffles is the Fairmont Hotel. Their lobby bar has a creative cocktail menu, and the drinks are 10 Sin cheaper.

My favorite area to grab a drink in is the Arab district. This is a little neighborhood full of restaurants, bars, and shops. This area is bustling day and night. At night, you’ll find alleys with one bar after another. It’s a great way to experience the nightlife in Singapore!

Kid-Friendly Hotel in Singapore

In case you are wondering where to stay while you are in Singapore, look into the Fairmont Singapore. This is where our family stayed, and we really enjoyed it. The rooms are nice and large with patios that overlook part of the city. We got two adjoining rooms because there were five of us. It was nice to be able to spread out and have two bathrooms. Each morning we hit up their elaborate breakfast buffet with food from around the world. When the afternoons got too hot for us, we hung out at the rooftop pool.

I liked how safe I felt during our stay here. My kids are teenagers and I had no issues leaving them in the hotel for a few hours while I went out for some adult fun. If you stay here, do be careful about the electricity. I was using an adaptor and thought that would be good enough. My curling iron got so hot I accidentally burnt some of my hair off.

Whether you are in town for a quick trip or have a whole week, these activities should be enough to make sure you see and experience much of Singapore.
