Come for a night at the theater and be dazzled by a Grammy Award-winning symphony orchestra, an international ballet company or a famous rock group.
Take your seat in one of the largest venues in the United States and enjoy comedy, music and more at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Take a tour and learn about how the building has helped regenerate Newark’s city center.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center was the vision of the former New Jersey Governor, Thomas Kean, who commissioned the idea in 1986. The venue opened in 1997 and along with several other cultural attractions on the Passaic River waterfront, the venue has helped invigorate the city of Newark into a world-class cultural destination.
Scan the program of events and see what coincides with your visit. Previous performers to grace the stage include musician Bob Dylan, the Royal Danish Ballet Company and numerous other well-recognized stars. The world-renowned New Jersey Symphony Orchestra are based here and play a summer season each year. Take your place in the 2,800-seat Prudential Hall and see why they are considered to be among the best orchestras in the country.
If nothing in the larger theater appeals, see what is on in the more intimate Victoria Theater. Here you can catch local acts and touring performers. Book a guided tour to learn about the theater’s history and catch a glimpse of the backstage area.
Start your night at the theater with a meal at one of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s restaurants. Nico offers modern cuisine, while the Tier 3 Café serves light meals and great coffee.
If you are here in the summer don’t miss the Horizon Foundation Sounds of the City festival. This is a free outdoor music festival held in July and August.
New Jersey Performing Arts Center is located just west of the Passaic River waterfront area. Show times and ticket prices vary so check online or at the box office for details.
