Mission Bay

Beaches and islands, amusement parks and water sports, bonfires, and sunsets: this outdoor playground buzzes both on land and in the water.

Let’s get straight to the facts: Mission Bay is the biggest manmade aquatic park in the USA. It’s so big that you could walk to Downtown San Diego and back twice in about the same time that you’d make it around the park’s shoreline on foot. If you like spending your days boating, surfing, and flying kites, and evenings sitting around beach fires and partying then Mission Bay is for you.

Mission Bay’s attractions are best explored on foot and by bike following the miles of recreational boardwalks, or driving a cabriolet cruising the beach roads, bridges, and causeways. There are dozens of grass and sand beaches to stop at; you just might need to keep moving to find a quiet one. You can also take to the waterways by Jet Ski, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard. Or, let someone else do the work for you aboard a Mississippi riverboat.

If you want to hang with the young, chic crowd then follow the sun-kissed surfers to Mission Beach. The vibe of the bars exudes that of a year-round college party. Plunge into the Pacific to perform barrel rides and cutbacks, or enjoy some nostalgic entertainment on the 1920s wooden big dipper at Belmont Park. It’s all thrill-seeking here.

Speaking of thrills, head over to SeaWorld San Diego for a day of family-friendly fun. Fairground rides and roller coasters for all ages? You’ve got it. Walk-though aquarium and dolphin encounters? You’ve got it. Acrobatic sea life demonstrations and theater shows? You’ve got that, too.

A great time to visit this aquatic paradise is whenever the desire comes to kick back on 27 miles of coastline. Our Mission Bay vacation packages will bring you one step closer to feeling the sand between your toes.
