Franklin Park

Head south of central Austin to discover a chilled neighborhood that’s bordered by pretty parks, woods, and water.

Austin isn’t all dive bars and hipster beards, you know. In Franklin Park you’ll discover a laid-back, residential part of the city that’s characterised by wide streets, plenty of trees, and close proximity to several green spaces.

Get a feel for the neighborhood as you sit with a coffee and do some people watching. Café culture has permeated every part of Austin, including Franklin Park, so you'll never be far from a decent latte and a pavement table to soak up the sun.

Franklin Park is bordered to the southwest by the Williamson Creek greenbelt. Go for a jog or bike ride along the river-side streets. This pretty part of town is ideal for a stroll; it’s a lot quieter than Downtown or hipster South Congress, a 15-minute drive away. Smaller parks are popular with locals for barbecuing and a game of basketball or tennis. This is a locale where people love to live outside.

Williamson Creek isn’t the only green space on your doorstep. To the east of the neighborhood is McKinney Falls State Park, a reserve often referred to as Austin’s backyard. Hike or mountain bike along nine miles of trails, then swim or fish in Onion Creek. You might even come across an early Texas homestead on your adventures. There are dozens of camping spots within the wooded park. Kids can become Junior Rangers for the day and complete tasks to earn a badge.

Want to do more on the water? Stop by the Texas Rowing Center where you can rent kayaks, practice rowing, or try stand-up paddleboarding.

Come to Franklin Park for relaxation or adventure in nature knowing your are never far away from the bustle of busier Downtown Austin.
