Never, Never, Never stay here.

I originally booked this hotel because it seemed charming and quirky. I Never made it through check in. Odd smell in lobby. Guy at the front desk desk would barely look at me and seemed less than happy that he was having to help a customer. When I walked up to the desk, he just stared at me. No “Welcome” or “May I Help you”. After a few awkward seconds I told him I was there to check in. He told me I was early. I said no problem, I could wait. He sat back and hunched back in his chair. That’s when the smell got my attention. Maybe it was the cat lounging in the lobby. IDK. After a few minutes, I realized that things would only get worse if I stayed. I turned around, booked a different hotel and called a cab.

Small and simple hotel.

Pros: The simplicity – just needed a couple nights stay, didn't need all the "amenities" big hotels offer that you never use anyway.
Cons: Liquid milk for the coffee.
Location: Less busy part of town. The trade-off is walking a bit more, though there is a bus station right nearby. Walking is better, orients you to the city.
Being unfamiliar with D.C., this was a bit far from where I had conferences, but it was walkable, pleasant part of town, and staff were friendly and helpful. Cute cat in lobby:) Overall good vibe.

Served its purpose...

The hotel got the job done. Not the cleanist or niftyest but the WiFi and cable worked. Clean towels.... but bed sheets looked a has scary... Stay at your own risk. ..

Convenient Location

Staff very friendly. Great area. Llive like a local. Metro rail & bus lines convenient and easy to use. Many restaurants nearby in varying price levels. Not fancy accommodations but clean and convenient. Felt safe in area as a single female traveller.

In need of a refurbishment

Whilst the room was clean and the bed comfortable this hotel desperately needs refurbishing and was overpriced for the state it's in and the services it offers. We were offered free breakfast but didn't take them up on it as we left too early. It's in quite a good location and with a lick of paint could have a lovely old world charm

Great neighborhood.

Pros: The front desk staff were great. The location was convenient and the area had lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Cons: MAINTENANCE.
The front desk staff was fabulous, friendly and very helpful. With that being said, our room was quite disappointing. After reading earlier reviews I thought it would still be fun to stay in an older building rather then going the Hilton/Marriott route, but I was wrong! The room was tiny - there was no dresser, the closet had 3 hangers and no iron. The bed was comfortable and I felt the linens were clean but it was small - which I knew going in (a full). Maintenance is NEEDED on this unit (205). The bathroom door handle was literally falling off- my husband got it workable. The toilet seat was so loose it was difficult to sit on. The shower had no soap dish and the tile floors looked disgusting - I would NOT get in without wearing sandals - reminded me of old high school gymnasium shower. Our sink was in the bathroom (not in the bedroom area as other reviews stated), however the sink area was so tiny it was difficult to stand there and brush your teeth, or do anything where you needed arm movement. Very little area to put toiletries out. Wallpaper in the room was literally peeling off the walls. The breakfast was a waffle machine and two types of cereal, every single day of our 4 night stay. No toast or fruit.

Comfortable, unpretentious 100- yr old inn

Pros: The location, the ambiance, the friendly staff, the historic feel of the place.
Location: African-American Civil Rights Memorial and Museum are near the Cardozo Metro stop; the Phillips Collection art museum is near DuPont Circle.
We enjoyed 4 nights at this comfortable, unpretentious 100 yr old inn. The front desk manager was pleasant, very knowledgeable, and quite helpful. The room was fairly large, the beds were comfortable, and the continental breakfasts were perfectly adequate -- cereal, milk, make-your-own waffles, coffee, orange juice, toast. The location was convenient, between the DuPont Circle and Cardozo Metro stops, and in a quite walkable neighborhood.

SPEND A FEW DOLLARS MORE AND STAY ELSEWHERE

Pros: THE LOCATION WAS CONVENIENT TO TRADER JOE'S, WHOLE FOODS, AND U STREET METRO, AS WELL AS MANY RESTAURANTS AND CLUBS AND SHOPPING
Cons: NEEDS TOP DOWN RENOVATION, OR TEAR DOWN AND REBUILD. TRAVELOCITY SHOULD DROP THIS PROPERTY FROM THEIR OFFERINGS UNTIL THE OWNERS ADDRESS THEIR ISSUES
Location: U STREET IS JUMPING, RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING GALORE. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THIS AREA. SO GOOD TO SEE THE CITY COMING BACK TO LIFE.
THE FIRST ROOM I WAS ASSIGNED WAS APPALLING. THE DOOR OPENED INTO A 20 FOOT HALLWAY, WHICH LED TO A SMALL BATH ON LEFT AND SMALL BEDROOM AT END OF HALL. DOOR LOCK WAS ALWAYS STICKING, A/C BLEW WARM AIR AND TV (TUBE TV, NOT FLAT SCREEN) DID NOT WORK, AND THERE WAS NO INTERNET ACCESS IN ROOM. SHOWER HEAD WAS BELOW MY HEAD LEVEL, SO I HAD TO STOOP DOWN TO SHOWER. (ROOM 313 - DO NOT TAKE THIS ROOM). AT MY INSISTENCE, THEY MOVED ME TO ROOM 106, A "GARDEN SUITE" ROOM. THIS MEANS THAT YOU GO DOWN A SET OF STAIRS FROM THE LOBBY, ZIG ZAG AROUND A HALLWAY, OUT A SECOND DOOR TO AN OUTSIDE COURTYARD, AND INTO ROOM FROM THERE. SECOND ROOM HAD WORKING A/C, INTERNET, TV AND LOCK, AND WAS PASSABLE, THOUGH QUITE SMALL. SINK WAS IN ROOM, SEPARATE FROM SHOWER AND COMMODE. IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST AND SWELTERING. THE ICE MACHINE BROKE ON THE DAY I ARRIVED. WHEN I ASKED THE FRONT DESK STAFF TO BUY SOME ICE AND PUT IT IN THE ICE MACHINE FOR THEIR GUESTS, IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THEY COULD NOT BE BOTHERED. I HAD TO GO TO THE CONVENIENCE STORE A HALF BLOCK AWAY AND BUY MY OWN BAG OF ICE EACH DAY AND PUT IT IN MY SHOWER. FURNISHINGS LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE REJECTED DONATIONS FROM A THRIFT STORE. MY COMFORTER HAD A HAND SIZED HOLE IN IT, AND THE INNER BATTING WAS HANGING OUT. TOWELS VARIED FROM NICE TO THREADBARE. THERE WAS HANGING SPACE FOR CLOTHES, BUT NO DRESSER FOR OTHER ARTICLES OF CLOTHING. CARPETING WAS DIRTY THROUGHOUT. I WAS PLEASED THAT IN MY SECOND ROOM THE FLOORS WERE TILED.

Get away from large chain hotels

Cons: I was glad to be on the first floor because it was difficult enough getting my large suitcase up the entrance steps without having to go any further.
Location: It's a few blocks away from Dupont Circle and equidistant from 2 metro stops.
I chose this hotel because it was close to a family member's apartment. It's a cute hotel and pretty quiet given it's location on 16th street. I had a single room and it was small, but that's typical for a downtown room in any large city. There's a bus stop and restaurants just 1 block away.

Would stay again!

Very comfortable & clean, excellent service, near Metro station & major bus lines, also near grocery stores & many restaurants. Would recommend to friends & family, & would definitely stay again.
