Great Hotel with sneaky fees

Watch out for the resort fees and 100 dollar deposit per night you stay.

Great stay

Friendly staff. Conveniently located. Had a driver almost daily for patrons if needed. Was upgraded to a king suite upon arrival.

Convenient and quiet

Posted Feb 8, 2016 on Expedia
Topaz, a Kimpton hotel, is everything you'd want for a trip exploring DC. It's close to the Metro and plenty of sites, but tucked away from the late-night partiers. My room was spacious and comfortable -- practically the size of some studio apartments. But the best thing about Topaz is the staff. They were friendly and efficient. The front desk stands out. They made sure I joined the Kimpton rewards program. If you don't you are hit with some unnecessary fees. A few quirks: The hotel offers a wine reception and morning cookies but doesn't advertise them. Ask. I circled the block once when I arrived because cars already were double parked on the street. There is one space for guest cars so be bold. The front desk will take your keys and have some park your car in the hotel garage. Not cheap.

Not up to Kimpton Brand

Posted Feb 7, 2016 on Expedia
Pros: It was next door to the Tabard Inn which has a wonderful menu.
Cons: Rennovate it so all rooms are decent, retrain the staff and fully staff the desk and other services, crack the whip on room service.
Location: Lots of nice places to eat, Starbucks, Fed X and assorted other services.
Room lacked a night table with a drawer. Toilet had no seat, Shower was a hand held head. I did not book for a handicapper type room. Desk had no drawer. Staff was inattentive and did not listen to directions. Room service was not up to snuff. I had a business associate in the hotel whose room number I had forgotten, although she had given me her room key. I called down to the desk, the staff had been there when we checked in at the desk together in separate rooms, and would not give me the last digit of her room although I told them it was on the 6th floor and I had the key. She was in a telelphone biz. Meeting so could not answer or give me the correct digit, thus causing me to have to be late for our meeting. Wifi was not readily available, although I am a Kimpton rewards member. There was no coffee maker in the room. And Only afer the fact did the staff inform me that I could have gotten Kimpton rewards if I had simply asked them to match the Expedia rate. I stay at various hotels on business, Kimpton being one of them but after this experience, Topaz is off my list entirely. Nothing but excuses for shoddy room service and just about everything else.
