One of the Jewels of Costa Rica. I have been leaving here 30 years and We now have a new favorite place to take my wife and guests. Hotel is wonderful the service is great, location is what you dream of for your visit to Costa Rica and yes the food was excellent.

Hotel is right on the beach

Cons: Unit #502, I would've enjoyed seating furniture that had a back rest to it. Signs are minimal and there is no street lighting, arrive during daylight
Location: Remote and a car is the only way to get out to see the area, unless you opt for the tour excursions.
They sound of the surf was wonderful to hear at any hour of the day, The food was very good and reasonable. Grounds were pretty. Saw some monkeys on the drive in.

No internet

Pros: The beds were very comfortable. The food was very good but there isn't anything cheaper than $20. The landscaping is wonderful.
Cons: Internet
Location: Very isolated
The hotel info promises Internet service. We never had any internet and we left early since we are self employed and needed to be able to contact our clients. Also the hotel says there is a waterfall. It was non existent when we were there. The hotel also promises places to eat and things to do outside the hotel. Again non existent. We saw one restaurant but it wasn't open. This hotel is very isolated. There is nothing around it. Nothing was mentioned about the need to walk and climb steep hills to go anywhere. For $100 you can rent a go cart---seems they should be free.

SERENITY

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
If you're looking for serenity, this is the place. Great location, beautiful views and plenty to see and do, it's really all up to you. The owner (Hilde) and her employees were most hospitable, courteous and attentive. The oceanfront rooms are large, very clean and the view from our balcony was amazing. The food and drinks were delicious and plenty to choose from. Breakfast selection is excellent. The value of service and atmosphere exceeds the price you pay. Thank you Tango Mar family for making us feel so at home.

Rare and Unique

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
This is our first review ever after 25 years of travelling to some great places, but this resort is far too special not to mention. We went to Costa Rica to celebrate our anniversary and renew our wedding vows and left with so much more. The natural beauty that cradles this piece of paradise is so well complemented by the owner’s (Mama Hilde’s) vision and passion to create something great, along with her hospitality and that of her staff that functions as a family, a community with efficiency, purpose and a lot of heart making this place truly unique. Hannia (reservation/wedding coordinator) was prompt and thorough with our reservations and delivered again by performing a beautiful ceremony with such special attention to detail in her words and right down to placement of flower petals and palm trees. Xavier and Clara at reception was always most professional and on task. The servers/bartenders were most friendly and courteous. We enjoyed everything we ate. The Ceviche and Caesar’s salad, the best we’ve ever had, especially when prepared with Junior’s good humor and positive vibrations. Cocktails were delicious and refreshing, especially served up by Andres with his refreshing smile and matching disposition. Try his awesome Mojitos, welcome punch or he’ll gladly whip up something great out of fresh local fruits. Equally, Royland, Jesus, Gerardo, Eduardo, Javier and Dorial provided excellent service and are proficient in English but most importantly provide service with a smile and a genuine enthusiasm to make you feel at home. If there’s something they may not understand, they eagerly find someone who does. Our ocean front room with its priceless view was spotless from our first day to our last. Housekeeping was quick to respond to any requests. Off site, the zip lining was awesome, a must and can be easily arranged through the reservation desk. Although, we did spend most of our time at the property where there’s plenty to see and do. The beach is long and private with an incredible panoramic background of jungle and incredible blue layers of ocean. There are hiking trails (friendly to the less athletic or not so adventurous), lush grounds with creeks and bridges. There are sightings of chameleons, iguanas and colorful birds. For the squeamish, don’t worry, they don’t bother you at all, they’re simply living out their day in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. This place has that effect to plants and animals alike. There are plenty of areas for privacy yet plenty of common areas to mingle. If you’re looking for a loud drunk fest in an atmosphere detached from connection with nature which is Costa Rica, or interaction with local people that truly complement and respect their surrounding, then Tango Mar, or this region of Costa Rica for that matter, may not be for you. A great place for couples, honeymooners, families, group of close friends. For destination weddings, renewal of vows, family reunions – Definitely!

Amazing place! Loved every second!!

My wife and I just spent 3 days/nights at Tango Mar at Playa Tambor for our honeymoon (Nov 2009) and we cannot believe how wonderfully luxurious and romantic our stay there was. It is amazing how a reasonably priced resort as Tango Mar is could make a regular couple, like us, feel like we were rock stars. True, Tango Mar is a bit secluded, but as great as the staff were treating us, we had no reason to go anywhere else. The service was impeccable. They were friendly, funny and were extremely proficient in English. They brought drinks to you at the pool or to your room. The cleaning staff was methodical and left cute towel animals and fresh flowers on our bed every day (which my wife loved). The owner, was a most gracious host. She greeted us every time our paths crossed and she spent time every evening at dinner getting to know us and regularly asked us if there was anything we needed to make our stay better. The resort has a computer in the lobby for guests to use as long as they like, but they also offered wireless internet for $* a day, which isn’t very much. They do offer Golf, Horse Riding, Spa Treatments, amongst other things, but we didn’t partake in any of those, after spending months planning a wedding, we were happy to spend our days lounging by the pool, walking on the beach and eating and drinking. The menu is limited, but every item we ordered was absolutely delicious. I had the lasagna twice it was so good. I’d go back there in a second, in fact, I better start saving for that ASAP!

Beautiful

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days and loved it. The food was a little expensive but wonderful. The staff was great and even held dinner for us when we arrived late our first night. I would recommend arriving during the day since the road to the hotel is long, dirt and bumpy. The hotel itself was smaller than I expected but worth every penny.
