No room for you

Arrived at hotel at 5:30pm, no room available. Told to go to pool, come back in an hour. No compensation offered. Back to front desk at 7:30pm, still no room. Left to go to another hotel with a room. Sugar Bay Resort refused to refund my payment until my credit card company got involved.

Beautiful resort with beautiful views

I am thrilled with the stay we had at Sugar Bay. My boyfriend and I wanted a relaxing, carefree getaway and we got all we wanted and more. The staff was friendly and attentive at every location on the property, from the shuttle drivers to the bartenders we had zero issues. Anything we asked for was addressed immediately. Rooms were clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, and kept well-stocked. We had an ocean view king as part of our all-inclusive package, which I also highly recommend! The package is well worth the money. Food and drinks were amazing and there was always something yummy to choose from. We didn't get in the pools, but they were quite nice. Clean, well kept, and plenty of lounge chairs always available. Yes, there are lots of stairs, but you're on and ISLAND, so, get over it! The beach was small, but private and sufficient for soaking up the sun. We snorkeled, kayaked, and SUPed all right off the hotel's beach! 10/10 would recommend and we will be returning!!

First time back in 30 plus yrs.

Nice hotel, clean room, breathtaking view with our OF room, great pool area, had a beach (many do not). Should've went all inclusive but not offered thru Travelocity booking. Take the Sunny Liston shopping and island tour...can't go wrong and the Day Dreamer/Coconut sail with lunch to St. John is a must do as well.

Good service Very friendly staff

Pros: private beach, pools, FOOD, drinks, service, very comfortable room
Cons: getting you back to the top of the hill. had to walk more then not.
Location: great location for us, we rented a car and drove all over. Red hook is 5 min. away to catch a ferry to St. Johns. Coki beach is also 5 min.
We stayed for 7 days all inclusive, very nice experience, food was good hibachi grill was the best. reserve it when you get there. We rented a car and drove all over the island, also a fun experience left side, small roads and very steep :] If you have Verizon your data wont work here so download your maps before you get here or do it over WiFi at hotel. The only compliant i have is when you get back from your day with a rental car there isn't somebody to pick you up at the bottom of the hill all the time walked up a few times.overall i would recommenced this place

Great vacation, a few minor negatives

I've never met more pleasant and helpful staff. Everyone always had a smile on their faces and was genuinely happy to be helping you. The rooms were cleaned daily and the beds were very comfortable. The pillows were small and thin though. Although the pools and ocean were down many, many stairs, there were shuttles that would take you there, you just sometimes had to wait a while for them, and you had to walk to the lobby to get on it, which was up a hill. The pool water was cold most of the time, for the temperature never getting below 70 degrees outside. It was also dirty in some areas. Purchasing inclusive vacations did not mean the same as other resorts. The only thing furnished in the rooms were bottled water, no other items were in the refrigerator, like other resorts that were inclusive. The food and drinks at the restaurants and bars were inclusive, but there was no room service. The buffet food was always cold. The Thursday night carnival night was fantastic, although again the buffet food was cold. There were many activities going on through the day, including hoopla hoop contests, bumper boats, pool volley ball and bingo. Items in the gift shop were very expensive, even food and drinks, which you had to purchase if you wanted anything other than water in your room. The hibachi grill was fabulous and they gave you lots of food, the only problem was you had to make a reservation and there weren't many available. Some good and some bad things about our stay.

Great Stay!

Pros: Location, ocean-front room, service, activities
It was a great stay! We had such a good time during the vacation. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was a decent gym on site, a movie screening room, a couple of restaurants, and beach. While the resort had plenty of amenities, we liked to get off the grid. There were plenty of options off the resort. Red Hook, with its restaurants and ferry to St. John, was close to the resort. Mafolie Restaurant. Charlotte Amalie with its shopping was a further trip, but afforded us an opportunity to take the safari bus and see more of the island. Did I mention the staff already? Well, I will again. They helped me surprise my wife with a little birthday cake, and cheese plate in our room. They helped us so often. The people from St. Thomas that we met were friendly and interesting.

Hotel with Pros and Cons

Pros: The food, drink, and the Mardi Gras night.
Cons: The beach and the TV reception.Taxi transportaion to nearby attractions was very expensive.
Location: The location was close to many attractions, including Magen's Bay, Coki Beach, and Coral World.
Our stay was satisfactory, on the whole. The food was very good, the beach shuttle schedule was convenient, and the pools were clean and accessible. However, the beach was rocky, some of the staff were not helpful, the TV went out once in awhile, and some of the events listed on the calendar did not take place.
